On the afternoon of November 9, at the Presidential Palace, President Vo Van Thuong had a friendly meeting with a delegation of over 100 delegates who are outstanding artisans and skilled workers in the field of handicrafts nationwide who were honored within the framework of the 2023 Festival for Preservation and Development of Vietnamese Craft Villages.

At the meeting, representatives of artisans and skilled workers expressed their honor to meet the President, participate in the activities of the Festival, thereby expressing their aspirations in the process of labor and production. Along with the country's innovation, craft villages and traditional craft products have great opportunities to reach the international market, contributing to the socio-economic development of the country, of each artisan and skilled worker's family, creating stable jobs for many people.

Opinions affirm that the Party and State's policies have contributed significantly to the opportunity for craft villages to develop strongly and improve the lives of craft villagers. Vietnam's traditional craft villages, if they want to continue to develop more successfully, need support from appropriate policies of the Party and State, especially in absorbing and applying modern science and technology; promoting initiatives in labor and production; supporting artisans and skilled workers to take advantage of local raw materials to produce traditional products; further developing the transmission of traditional crafts to the younger generation...

President Vo Van Thuong stated that from the sophistication of skillful hands and the creativity of artisans and skilled workers, friendly and familiar materials in the daily life of Vietnamese people have become valuable art products, containing emotional stories, reflecting the beauty in the labor and life of Vietnamese people. Each product of artisans has a life, destiny, love of life, has the length, breadth, and depth of history, containing a strong cultural vitality. This is something very special and proud.

The President said that handicrafts and fine arts products created and made by Vietnamese artisans and skilled workers are always exquisite gifts in foreign affairs activities, impressing international leaders and friends about the country, people and culture of Vietnam.

The President highly appreciated the development of Vietnamese craft villages in recent years, bringing many jobs to people, especially rural people of all ages, thereby making an important contribution to preserving and promoting the fine cultural values ​​of the Vietnamese people.

The President said that craft villages in Vietnam are not only places for livelihood activities and socio-economic development in localities, but also spaces for preserving and promoting the cultural and historical values ​​of regions and localities nationwide. The President affirmed that to achieve such great achievements, first of all, the credit belongs to artisans, skilled workers and people of craft villages nationwide who have made important contributions and dedications. Artisans and skilled workers are considered the soul of craft villages, living treasures of localities and the nation. Artisans in different fields, but all are passionate, love their profession, are creative, have skillful hands and the soul of an artist. To become an artisan or skilled worker is a process of persistent efforts in practical labor and also ups and downs in the profession.

The President was pleased to note that in the recent context, when the export market was narrowed, many production sectors were facing difficulties, the handicraft industry also faced many difficulties, but with their love for the profession, artisans and craft villages have made efforts to overcome them. The President highly appreciated and commended the dedication and contributions of artisans and skilled workers in the handicraft sector, contributing to the socio-economic development of each locality and the country, preserving and promoting the cultural values ​​of the nation.

President Vo Van Thuong requested relevant ministries and sectors to continue to improve mechanisms and policies to promote the development of craft villages in Vietnam. Along with that, it is necessary to improve the incentive policy for artisans; improve the mechanism to promote innovation in handicraft production, and develop craft villages for tourism. The President also requested to improve the criteria for reviewing and awarding the title of artisan, the mechanism for passing on the craft and supporting artisans in branding and marketing.

The President hopes that artisans and skilled workers will persevere in their artistic work, further honor Vietnamese culture, both preserve and develop professional skills and nurture and develop the next generation, considering passing on their skills to the next generations.

The President also requested relevant ministries, branches and agencies to continue to consider and recognize more qualified artisans and skilled workers that are more suitable to the current situation.

The President hopes that the lives of artisans, skilled workers, and workers in the handicraft sector will be increasingly improved so that there will be more new products, making Vietnamese handicrafts famous and contributing to spreading Vietnamese culture more widely to international friends.
