Chairman of the Japanese Communist Party mourns General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong

Chairman of the Japanese Communist Party Shii Kazuo wrote an article sharing his deep sadness at the passing of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong; expressing strong emotions when recalling memories of the General Secretary.

According to a VNA reporter in Tokyo, on July 20, Chairman of the Presidium of the Central Executive Committee of the Communist Party of Japan Shii Kazuo wrote an article sharing his deep sadness at the passing of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, expressing his impressions and recalling his memories of the General Secretary.

Here is the content of the article:

"Hearing the news of the passing of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, I feel deeply saddened. Comrade Nguyen Phu Trong and I have had a friendly relationship for more than 30 years, through many talks and exchanges of opinions in Tokyo and Hanoi. Comrade Nguyen Phu Trong is a friend with whom we can talk openly and sincerely about any topic or field. I am deeply saddened and regretful at the passing of such a friend. I would like to express my sincere condolences to his family, the Vietnamese people and the entire Communist Party of Vietnam.

Comrade Nguyen Phu Trong has played a great role in implementing Vietnam's correct foreign policy in accordance with the United Nations Charter and international law, including maintaining an independent and self-reliant stance, diversifying and multilateralizing foreign affairs; supporting the complete disarmament of nuclear weapons; promoting the development of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), contributing to world peace and the Asian region.

General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong has directed and led the Doi Moi process, achieving great achievements in hunger eradication, poverty reduction and economic development in Vietnam. Our Communist Party has always cared about and supported the success of Vietnam's Doi Moi process.

During the period of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong's leadership, the friendship and solidarity between the Communist Party of Japan and the Communist Party of Vietnam have developed strongly.

At the meeting between the leaders of the two parties on December 26, 2023 in Hanoi, our Japanese Communist Party was very pleased that the two parties agreed to jointly promote efforts for peace building in the East Asia region, nuclear disarmament, and exchange theories between the two parties.

The relationship between the two parties began to develop during the period when you fought against the US invasion. I sincerely hope that the two parties will continue to develop this traditional friendship and solidarity.

I will always remember that after his visit to Japan in 1994, comrade Nguyen Phu Trong wrote a memoir about the visit in Nhan Dan newspaper, with the title "Cherry blossoms and the heart of a communist."

In this article, he wrote about the solidarity and deep friendship he felt with the Japanese Communist Party members who fought steadfastly in the conditions of a developed capitalist country.

In my last meeting with Comrade Nguyen Phu Trong in December 2023, he also mentioned this article many times and expressed his hope to further develop the relationship between the two parties. I am recalling this memory with strong emotion.

Once again, I would like to express my condolences on the passing of Comrade Nguyen Phu Trong; I wish the success of Vietnam's Doi Moi process, and I wish the friendship between the Communist Party of Japan and the Communist Party of Vietnam as well as the friendship between the two countries and peoples to develop strongly."
