Kim Bong carpentry village was formed around the 16th century, developed and became famous for its traditional carpentry, only about 2km from Hoi An Ancient Town.

To date, Kim Bong carpentry is still preserved and passed down with hundreds of artisans and skilled workers in four main fields: construction carpentry, household carpentry, boat building carpentry and fine art carpentry. This craft village was listed as a national intangible cultural heritage by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism in 2016.

This is one of the early tourist attractions and an attractive destination for tourists, especially international tourists in the early years of the 21st century. However, over time, the Kim Bong carpentry village destination gradually became saturated, with few visitors and for a long time fell into a deadlock.

Kim Bong carpentry village has begun to have positive movements when many incentives were created. That is, the city issued Resolution 33 with the project "Building Cam Kim rural village - ecological craft village in the period of 2017 - 2020, orientation to 2025"; was selected as a pilot model under the Rural Tourism Development Program in the construction of new rural areas in the period of 2021 - 2025; funded by the Project on developing sustainable community livelihood models combined with ecotourism to promote socio-economic development, contributing to the protection of biodiversity and ecosystems in the Cu Lao Cham - Hoi An World Biosphere Reserve.

Hoi An's admission to UNESCO's global creative cities network in the field of crafts and folk arts in 2023... has re-energized Kim Bong carpentry village.

The opening of the Kim Bong Carpentry Village tour guide service is one of the contents that Hoi An has committed to in its application to join the network.

The official opening of the tour guide service from June 1 will help convey the brand identity of Kim Bong carpentry village to tourists, along with other craft villages that have organized tour guide services such as Tra Que vegetable village and Thanh Ha pottery village.

Mr. Nguyen The Hung - Vice Chairman of Hoi An City People's Committee said that there will still be many difficulties and challenges in management, operation as well as organizing sightseeing, tourism, service activities, and sharing benefits for the community of residents...

However, in the immediate future, this will be a new beginning with many hopes for a bright future for the craft village and the locality, thereby catching up with the trend of sustainable tourism development in the new era.

In recent times, Kim Bong carpentry village has upgraded and renovated its infrastructure and landscape to ensure service for tour guiding activities, program and route development, as well as research, collection and display of artifacts, and restoration of values that are gradually fading away.

According to the People's Committee of Cam Kim commune, in the coming time, it will continue to gradually complete the "check-in" cluster for tourists, exhibition houses, environmental landscapes and the participation of handicraft establishments...

Ms. Truong Thi Ngoc Cam - Director of Hoi An City Culture, Information and Tourism Center said that the opening of tour guide activities at Kim Bong carpentry village is only in phase 1.

In phase 2 (expected from mid-2025), we will study and propose to organize more joint tour programs. Including organizing tours combining visits to historical and cultural sites, experiencing other local occupations, combining experiences of eco-tourism - clean agriculture - fisheries; organizing joint tour programs within Hoi An and neighboring localities...
