The Minister of Transport has just signed Decision No. 207/QD-BGTVT approving the Gia Binh International Airport Planning for the 2021-2030 period, with a vision to 2050.

Accordingly, Gia Binh International Airport has the position and function in the national civil aviation network as an international airport; the nature of use is an airport for shared civil and security use.

During the period 2021-2030, Gia Binh International Airport will have a 4E airport level (according to the standard code of the International Civil Aviation Organization - ICAO); capacity of about 1 million passengers/year and 250,000 tons of cargo/year; types of aircraft operated are B777, B787, A350, A321 and other special and specialized aircraft; landing approach method according to CAT II standard at end 07 of the runway; simple at end 25 of the runway.

Vision to 2050, Gia Binh International Airport will maintain the 4E airport level, landing approach method; capacity of about 3 million passengers/year and 1 million tons of cargo/year; types of aircraft operated are B777, B787, A350, A321 and other special and specialized aircraft.

Regarding the runway system, Decision No. 207 determines that in the 2021-2030 period, the planned runway will be 07-25, with dimensions of 3,500 m x 45 m; material curb size according to regulations; with a vision to 2050, the runway configuration planned for the 2021-2030 period will be maintained.

Regarding the planning of aviation service facilities, Gia Binh International Airport has a terminal serving special aircraft - VIP Terminal planned to the south of the special aircraft parking area; the land area is about 3.2 hectares.

For the passenger terminal, in the period 2021-2030, it is planned to operate a civil aviation terminal combined with general aviation in the southwest of the VIP terminal with a capacity of about 1 million passengers/year.

By 2050, Gia Binh International Airport will expand its passenger terminal to accommodate about 3 million passengers per year.

For the cargo terminal, in the period 2021-2030, it is planned to be located southwest of the passenger terminal, meeting the capacity of about 250,000 tons of cargo/year; with a vision to 2050, the cargo terminal will be expanded to meet the capacity of about 1 million tons/year; land will be reserved for development when needed.

Land use demand for the period 2021-2030, vision to 2050 of Gia Binh International Airport is about 363.5 hectares of security land, of which land planned for works in the airport area is about 246.3 hectares; land planned for civil aviation works is about 85.8 hectares; land planned for barracks works is about 31 hectares.

According to the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam, the planning of Gia Binh International Airport is consistent with the Politburo's Resolution on "modern services" which are air cargo transportation services.

In addition, it is also consistent with Decision No. 142/QD-BGTVT dated February 12, 2025 of the Ministry of Transport approving the adjustment of the Master Plan for the development of the national airport and seaport system for the period 2021-2030 and vision to 2050, which is an airport serving the security activities of the Mobile Police force, serving the activities of national-level special aircraft, and the activities of transporting goods and civil aviation passengers to serve the socio-economic development of the region and locality.

Specifically, in addition to the goal of serving national-level private aircraft operations, Gia Binh International Airport can also support the operations of Noi Bai International Airport in the context that Noi Bai International Airport's land fund is limited and the expansion plan requires a lot of time to implement large-scale site clearance work.

Accordingly, Gia Binh International Airport can immediately support operations with general aviation operations, partial cargo and passenger operations.
