The Information Security Department has received many complaints from people about suspected fraudulent messages and calls from strange phone numbers in the past week.
According to statistics from the Vietnam Cyberspace Emergency Response Center - VNCERT/CC, continuously for 7 weeks from October 14 to December 1, the 156/5656 switchboard system recorded nearly 31,400 people's feedback on fraudulent calls and messages (accounting for nearly 95% of online fraud feedback sent to the Department of Information Security.
Among them, the trick of impersonating bank employees to invite people to open credit cards is popular. Although this trick has been warned before, many people still fall into the trap.
Accordingly, the subjects called or texted people and claimed to be bank employees to invite them to open credit cards and virtual cards online; instructing users to deposit money into their accounts, as well as process card services.
To provide specific instructions, the subjects entice people to make friends and join groups to get advice. Then, they trick users into clicking on links leading to fake websites.
On the fake website, users need to provide personal information to log in. Then, the subject will take over the bank account and make transactions to appropriate money.
Accordingly, the Information Security Department recommends that people be vigilant when receiving calls inviting them to open cards or when receiving links requesting personal information.
Never provide verification codes or personal information to anyone, and do not access strange links or websites. If you see signs of fraud, you must immediately report it to the authorities for action.
