Fire at jewelry company in Saigon, nearly 40 employees flee

The 6th floor of a gold and silver jewelry processing company building in Go Vap district caught fire fiercely, nearly 40 employees escaped, noon on January 22.

At nearly 11am, smoke and fire rose from the 6th floor, the gold and silver jewelry production area of the 1,000 m2 building of the 3D Technology Jewelry Company on Nguyen Tuan Street, Ward 3. The exterior of the building is covered with glass.

Some employees who were working discovered the fire and shouted to each other to put it out, but were unsuccessful. A few minutes later, the fire flared up fiercely, many people on the floors ran down the stairs to escape.

Black smoke from the building billowed over the school across the street and into the residential area. An employee said there were many loud explosions when the fire broke out. "I rushed out so I left all my belongings behind, hoping they wouldn't burn or get damaged," he said.

Many fire trucks and nearly 20 firefighters arrived at the scene. Firefighters pulled water hoses inside to put out the fire and prevent it from spreading. After 20 minutes, the fire was under control.

Ms. Bui Truc Anh, the company's director, said the fire was caused by an electrical short circuit in the production area. The incident did not cause serious damage and all employees were safe.
