When Dan Viet reporter asked about his feelings during the days in Hanoi attending the series of events of Vietnamese Farmers' Pride and his impressions of the models of outstanding Vietnamese farmers, Mr. Ho Chu Vang, Phin Ho commune, Nam Po district, Dien Bien province - Outstanding Vietnamese Farmer 2024 said that he considered this an opportunity to learn.
"My model compared to other farmers is still small and modest, so I consider this an opportunity to broaden my horizons and learn from experience," said Mr. Vang.
Mr. Ho Chu Vang, an outstanding Vietnamese farmer in Dien Bien province, said that he considered the opportunity to go to Hanoi to meet other outstanding farmers and typical cooperatives a rare opportunity to learn from their experiences.
Although modest, Mr. Vang is also the owner of a large herd of cattle (buffalo, cows, horses) with a total herd of more than 100 animals. Currently, on average, Mr. Vang's farm generates over 1.6 billion VND/year in revenue, after deducting expenses, he makes a profit of over 700 million VND/year.
It is noteworthy that Mr. Ho Chu Vang's livestock model is not only a personal achievement but also a source of inspiration for economic development for people in the commune.
With the support of local authorities and the solidarity of the people, this model has brought positive changes to the lives of many people in Phin Ho commune. The achievements of Mr. Ho Chu Vang are a testament to his efforts and perseverance in poverty reduction and rural economic development.
Bringing his wife, who has worked hard and rolled with him for decades to implement the eel farming model, to the ceremony to honor and award the title of Excellent Vietnamese Farmer, to commend typical cooperatives, Mr. Nguyen Huu Anh, a billionaire eel farmer - a specialty fish in Tan Thanh ward, Ca Mau city, Ca Mau province) took his wife to all the exhibition booths at the National Farmers' Forum to admire. This is the second time Mr. Anh has been honored to receive the title of Excellent Vietnamese Farmer (the first time was in 2017 in the Program of Pride of Vietnamese Farmers 30 years of innovation), but it was only this time that he was able to bring his fellow farmers along to witness the brilliant moments in his life.
Mr. Nguyen Huu Anh and his wife went to Hanoi to attend the series of events "Pride of Vietnamese Farmers".
Mr. Anh started the eel farming model in 1999. In June 2001, the first eels were released to the market in Ho Chi Minh City and surprisingly, there were places to buy them at 220,000 VND/kg. Harvesting the first eel pond, Mr. Anh earned 65 million VND, equivalent to buying 27 taels of gold at that time.
Seeing the effectiveness of the eel farming model, in the following years, Mr. Anh continuously invested and expanded the farming area. From 1 initial pond, by 2007 his family had nearly 20 ponds, and by 2023, he had a total of 40 ponds, bringing in an income of more than 5 billion VND for the family/year, after deducting all expenses.
Mrs. Le Thi Phuc told me: "He is crazy about eels and has worked hard with them to get to where he is today."
At the 9th National Farmers' Forum, Mr. Anh boldly raised his hand, spoke, and sent a petition to the President of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Farmers' Association Luong Quoc Doan and the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Le Minh Hoan. Accordingly, Mr. Anh said that after more than 20 years of raising eel, he realized that Ca Mau's soil is very good for raising eel, but the difficulty is that the locality does not allow the conversion of agricultural land. Many households want to switch to raising eel but are not allowed.
In response to Mr. Anh's question, Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Le Minh Hoan said that the 2024 Land Law has introduced a new term, which is multi-purpose land. This means that agricultural land can be used for aquaculture, livestock farming or tourism. Perhaps the locality is still confused and has not been able to access it. "The term multi-purpose land will untie the long-standing problem in the process of land conversion, from eel farming areas in Ca Mau to snakehead fish farming in Quang Binh," Minister Le Minh Hoan informed.
Mr. Huynh Mung Em, an outstanding Vietnamese farmer from Bac Lieu, considered his trip to Hanoi to attend the Vietnamese Farmers' Pride Program this time as an opportunity to find partners.

"I have provided clam seeds to many farmers across the country. This time, I want to find farmers in the same industry and field to learn from or cooperate with," said the billionaire from Bac Lieu.
Once a man who did not even have a piece of land to "fight birds", but after several decades, with his will and determination, with the model of raising meat clams and raising seed clams, Mr. Huynh Mung Em has risen to become a billionaire in the coastal area of Hoa Binh, Bac Lieu province - and is also the sponsor for hundreds of poor households and ethnic minority households in the locality to become rich.
After 10 years of running Dong Tien Cooperative, Mr. Mung Em has brought in a charter capital of 6 billion VND for the unit, operating capital of 20 billion VND - compared to the time before 2014, the charter capital of this unit was only 22 million VND. Raising meat clams and clam seeds is one of the production and business fields of the Cooperative.
Up to now, the Cooperative has managed 900 hectares of coastal alluvial land in Bac Lieu province, with a charter capital of up to 6 billion VND, the unit's operating capital increased to 20 billion VND, with 552 members.
