The area where many lamp posts had their cables stolen is at the intersection of the Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh - Dau Giay Expressway and Highway 4, extending to Muong Kenh Bridge, Thu Duc City. This section is about 500 m long, with both sides being empty land with no houses. It was recorded that more than 10 lamp posts had their covers pried off and the cables inside were stolen.

A representative of T&T Traffic Construction Company Limited (the contractor) said the cable theft occurred a few days after the route opened to traffic on September 17. Because the contractor did not have replacement materials available, the electric poles with cut cables did not light up, posing a risk of safety at night. Currently, Thu Duc City Police are verifying and handling the case.

Started in 2017, the parallel road of Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh Expressway is nearly 4 km long, 20 m wide, connecting Mai Chi Tho Avenue to Ring Road 2. Of which, the nearly 3 km section from Nguyen Thi Dinh Street to Do Xuan Hop Street will be opened to traffic first. The remaining part, which has no land and is stuck in procedures, will be completed in 2024.

Theft of equipment at infrastructure projects often occurs in Ho Chi Minh City. Last August, a series of water meters in the city center worth hundreds of millions of VND were stolen. Previously, more than 40 trash covers on Ba Son Bridge connecting District 1 with Thu Duc City, which had just been inaugurated, were also stolen. The Ben Luc - Long Thanh Expressway had many pieces of equipment stolen even though it was not yet completed.
