Vietnam Post Corporation said that these fake fanpages created their own topics and promised attractive prizes to attract participants.
The official fanpage of the contest in Vietnam has only one address: “facebook.com/cuocthivietthuupuvietnam” and the activities on this page are managed by the Organizing Committee including the Ministry of Information and Communications, the Ministry of Education and Training, the Central Committee of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union, the Young Pioneers and Children Newspaper, and Vietnam Post.
The organizers recommend that parents and students need to be vigilant and adhere to the “3 no” principle: do not follow requests from unofficial fanpages or websites; do not provide personal information or bank accounts; do not access strange links or make any payments without verifying the source.
To avoid scams, the Ministry of Information and Communications recommends that people be cautious when receiving information from Facebook pages about online contests or programs, and request clear verification of the identity of the organizing unit before participating. In case of being scammed, people should immediately report to the nearest police station for support and resolution.
