(NLDO) - Ho Chi Minh City invested 9,894 billion VND to upgrade the North-South axis, build 7.2 km of elevated road, connect the center with the highway, reduce traffic jams.
As one of the four gateway BOT projects to the city that has just been approved for investment by the Ho Chi Minh City People's Council, the North-South axis upgrade project, from Nguyen Van Linh Street to Ben Luc - Long Thanh Expressway, has a total investment of VND 9,894 billion to form a fast-track traffic route, connecting the center of Ho Chi Minh City with the South Saigon urban area, Hiep Phuoc port and belt routes.
Project to upgrade the North-South axis, section from Nguyen Van Linh Street to Ben Luc - Long Thanh Expressway.
The project will upgrade and expand an 8.6 km long route, including a 7.2 km elevated road with 4 lanes and a design speed of 80 km/h. The two parallel roads below will be 3 lanes wide on each side, with a maximum speed of 60 km/h. The elevated route will be shifted to the left of the planned road centerline, towards Nha Be district to avoid the existing water supply system and create conditions for metro line 4 in the future.
The project will connect Ring Road 2 with Ben Luc - Long Thanh Expressway (part of Ring Road 3) and in the future Ring Road 4, contributing to reducing traffic congestion and accidents and promoting the economy of Ho Chi Minh City as well as the key economic region of the South. The project also replaces the investment policy for items such as the Nguyen Van Linh - Nguyen Huu Tho intersection and Rach Dia bridge (phase 3).
The land area for the project is about 66.5 hectares, of which 2.3 hectares need to be cleared. The clearance work is expected to take place from the fourth quarter of 2025 and be completed in 2028.
The capital for implementation includes VND4,680 billion from the Ho Chi Minh City budget, the rest is arranged by the investor under the public-private partnership (PPP) method, in which the minimum equity capital requirement is VND703 billion.
