A woman in the UK suddenly lost her sight while driving on the motorway.

"I was driving back from Oxford to Bristol when I lost my sight while driving. I managed to pull over to the side of the motorway. I must have been an angel. I couldn't do anything, not even touch my phone," recalls Shannen Broodryk.

The teacher said that before this terrible incident, she had suffered from sudden blindness and now regrets not having gone to the doctor for a thorough check-up. She also had severe headaches and ringing in her ears, so painful that her head felt like it was going to explode.

The patient had an abnormally high cerebrospinal fluid volume and was diagnosed with idiopathic intracranial hypertension.

Following the motorway incident, she was transferred to Bristol Eye Hospital for examination.

Doctors checked for three problems: a large brain tumor, a blood clot in the brain, or idiopathic intracranial hypertension.

After a CT scan and examination, they discovered the patient had an abnormally high amount of cerebrospinal fluid and diagnosed her with idiopathic intracranial hypertension, according to Mirror.

Shannen Broodryk was then transferred to Southmead Hospital for treatment. She now has a shunt inserted into her brain to drain excess fluid in a bid to save her sight.

Shannen Broodryk is still taking medication to control her condition.

Idiopathic intracranial hypertension is caused by excessive pressure on the brain, causing the optic nerve to swell, according to the National Eye Institute. Other symptoms that Ms. Broodyrk suffered from include double vision, nausea and memory loss. It can also affect a person's speech.
