It is the summer-autumn rice crop season. However, the three fields of Cua Trai, Khe Nay and Thang Muoi with an area of about 50 hectares in Hung Trung village, Cam Hung commune (Cam Xuyen district, Ha Tinh) are in a state of drought. Seen from above, these fields are only a yellow color.
The field is bare of stubble from the previous spring rice crop.
The family of Mrs. Nguyen Thi Diu (54 years old, living in Hung Trung village) has 7 sao of rice fields. However, every year, her family can only produce one spring rice crop thanks to the rainy weather. As for the summer-autumn crop, her family cannot produce because there is no canal to bring water.
In the summer, this place falls into a state of drought and water shortage.
Unable to cultivate, people abandoned their rice fields. The fields became grazing grounds for cattle.
Lacking water, this land becomes arid, cracked, and plants wither.
Local people drive through the dry fields.
Only separated by a canal, there are two contrasting scenes. On the left, the new rice fields of Cam Thinh commune are lush and green. However, 50 hectares of rice fields of the three fields of Cua Trai, Khe Nay and Thang Muoi of Cam Hung commune are yellow and dry.
Mr. Nguyen Dinh Hoat, Chairman of Cam Hung Commune People's Committee, said that the three fields of Cua Trai, Khe Nay and Thang Muoi of Hung Trung village are "dead zones", with steep slopes, no irrigation system and 100% dependent on... "heavenly water".
This land only needs one early season rain, the muddy water from upstream will flow down and stick to it, many plants will die. Therefore, people cannot grow anything. Previously, people switched to growing potatoes and corn, but it was not effective so they had to give up.
"If we invest in water supply, it will be large but not very effective, while the financial resources of the commune and district are prioritizing other more important places," Mr. Hoat explained.
