Even though it was the weekend, many schools in Hanoi still had teachers and administrators present to clean up the environment and classrooms after the floodwaters receded.
The amount of work to be done is huge, but with the active support of parents, local forces, especially colleagues from other schools, the environmental sanitation at the schools is very urgent, and everything is done cleanly.
Nguyen Thi Thu Huong, principal of Yen My Kindergarten in Thanh Tri District, said that the water had just completely receded from the schoolyard on the afternoon of September 13. Taking advantage of the sunny weather, the school mobilized its maximum force for a general cleaning.
“The school has 38 staff members, more than 20 of whom live in flooded areas. Fortunately, the school has received enthusiastic support from staff members and teachers from 13 kindergartens in Thanh Tri district. In addition, many relatives of the teachers have also joined the school in cleaning up and overcoming the consequences of the flood; therefore, the work has gradually been completed,” said the Principal of Yen My Kindergarten.
Previously, staff and teachers of Nghia Dung Primary School, Phuc Xa Secondary School, Kindergarten No. 8 (Ba Dinh District) and functional forces also urgently cleaned school facilities with the spirit of "cleaning as soon as the floodwaters recede", including: cleaning the environment, spraying mosquito repellent, cleaning water tanks...; ensuring all safety conditions to welcome students back to school as usual from September 16.
It is noted that, taking full advantage of the 2-day weekend (Saturday and Sunday), schools in the city have increased their staff and mobilized the participation of parents to do general cleaning, check facilities, and repair damage after the storm. Today is a day off for preschool and primary school students, so teachers have more time to clean up; meanwhile, secondary and high schools have maintained teaching while urgently overcoming the consequences of floods and implementing disease prevention measures.
However, some schools in low-lying areas are still deeply flooded, such as: Hong Quang Secondary School, a satellite school of Van Thai Primary School (Ung Hoa); Vat Lai Secondary School, Cam Thuong Secondary School, Tien Phong Secondary School (Ba Vi)... These schools will continue to monitor the weather and have made plans to clean up the environment as soon as the water recedes so that students can return to school as soon as possible.
The Hanoi Department of Education and Training noted that schools should only organize in-person learning when they can ensure safety conditions. In cases where in-person learning cannot be organized, schools should flexibly implement appropriate teaching methods: online, in-person combined with online, assign tasks or homework to students to comply with the 2024-2025 school year schedule.
