The coffee seed market has been bustling for more than 2 months. People from all over the province have been visiting seedling shops to learn about quality and prices. Many customers have ordered seedlings and waited until the planting date because they are worried that prices will increase when the season begins.

Ms. Tran Thi Phuong, owner of Phuc Phuong seedling establishment in Duc Lieu commune, Bu Dang district, said: “This year, growers prefer coffee more than ever. At the beginning of the season, from January to February, although the land was being prepared and waiting for rain, many people came to buy seedlings, or place orders, or inquire about prices. Therefore, the number of coffee seedlings imported to the establishment in recent days has doubled compared to last year. Up to now, the establishment has imported more than 50,000 coffee seedlings of all kinds.”

As of now, the price of coffee seedlings is fluctuating at 19,000-20,000 VND/seedling. Compared to the 2024 crop season, the price has increased by 5,000-6,000 VND/seedling. The price is likely to increase further when the planting season begins.

Explaining the reason for the sharp increase in coffee seed prices and high demand, many seedling suppliers in the province said that it was due to the sharp increase in coffee bean prices in the 2024 crop, increased intercropping land, and farmers renovating old coffee gardens...

Mr. Le Quang Hung in Hamlet 7, Duc Lieu Commune, Bu Dang District, said: In 2023, people in Hamlet 7 mainly planted durian, but this year many households switched to growing coffee. My family has been intercropping coffee for 3 years now. Coffee beans are in good price, so I will continue to plant about 700 more trees.

Currently, dwarf green and Thien Truong are two coffee varieties that are ordered by many people. Of which, dwarf green is more popular because of its productivity and quality.

As a facility specializing in providing coffee seeds to farmers in the communes of Duc Lieu, Bom Bo, Dak Nhau (Bu Dang district) and some districts and towns in the province, Ms. Phuc Phuong said: "In the past few years, dwarf green coffee has been the most sought-after product by customers compared to other coffee varieties currently sold in stores. This year in particular, the demand for dwarf green coffee seeds has increased."

Mr. Pham Van Minh in Xuan Hiep village, Tho Son commune, Bu Dang district said: “Dwarf green coffee has many advantages. The tree has a strong root system, develops many horizontal branches and side branches, large and strong branches, good flexibility and growth ability. Flowers and fruits cover the entire trunk to the tip of the branches. Dwarf green coffee fruits are large, thin-skinned, and ripen in concentrated clusters. If there is enough irrigation water, 1 hectare of dwarf green coffee intercropped in a cashew garden can yield more than 5 tons. The larger the tree, the higher the yield.”

Due to the increasing demand of the people, coffee seedlings at nurseries are currently "out of stock". Therefore, seedling shops and farmers need to be very careful to avoid importing and buying poor quality seedlings. They should choose reputable nurseries and facilities to avoid serious losses later.
