As the rotating chair of the BRICS group of leading emerging economies in 2025, Brazil will host the group's summit scheduled for July.

The Brazilian presidential office in January announced its five main priorities for BRICS in 2025: Promoting trade and investment; Promoting responsible artificial intelligence (AI) governance; Improving climate finance methods; Strengthening South-South cooperation with a focus on public health; and strengthening the group's institutions.
This is a great opportunity for Brasília to influence the direction of the bloc as it expands. The growth of BRICS puts founding member Brazil at risk of becoming a smaller player compared to its other co-founders, China and Russia.
Brazil has tried to push a number of priority issues in other forums, most recently at the November 2024 G20 summit. That agenda suggests Brazil hopes to push BRICS to focus on the economic and climate challenges facing developing countries. Concrete progress in these areas could help change Western perceptions that BRICS is primarily an anti-American club.
The BRICS’ goal of developing trade without the dollar has made the group a target of criticism from US President Donald Trump, who has threatened to impose a 100% tariff on countries that create a rival currency to the dollar. However, the BRICS countries are increasingly trading in their own currencies.
