Emotional coronation
Competing on Cambodian soil, the Vietnamese 3x3 women's basketball team was not "alone" because there were many fans from Vietnam and Vietnamese people living and working in the neighboring country coming to the stadium to cheer them on. The head of the basketball team, Do Thi Nguyet Nga, said that the cheering of fans on the field not only helped the Vietnamese players play confidently but also put psychological pressure on their opponents.
In the qualifying round, Truong Thao My and her teammates surprised everyone by defeating defending champion Thailand and top contender Philippines. In the semi-finals against Indonesia, the Vietnamese women's basketball team 3x3 overcame Indonesia to face the Philippines in the final. With a tight schedule of 5 matches in 2 days, players Huynh Thi Ngoan and Tieu Duy were overloaded, had knee pain and had to be constantly taken care of by medical staff to be able to play the final match. Playing with a bandage wrapped around her knee, veteran shooter Huynh Thi Ngoan still used her experience to create a launching pad for twin sisters Thao My and Thao Vy to score. Thao My was the best shooter in the final match when she continuously scored important points. Right after Thao Vy scored the decisive point of the match, the girls of the Vietnamese basketball team burst into tears of happiness with the first gold medal for Vietnamese basketball in the regional arena, where the Philippines and Thailand have dominated for many years.

At the 31st SEA Games, two beautiful girls Thao My - Thao Vy returned from the US to play for the Vietnamese women's basketball team for the first time and created a fever with fans because of their closeness and talent on the field. Helping the Vietnamese basketball team win the silver medal at the 31st SEA Games for the first time, Thao My and Thao Vy were not satisfied, so they were very determined to return this time. Thao My said that she was excited every time she returned to Vietnam to compete because the Vietnamese women's basketball team was like a family, and the fans were extremely cute. "When playing with the Vietnamese basketball team, we may not be rated as highly as the Philippines or Thailand, but the determination, unity, team spirit and efforts of each individual helped us create a strong team," Thao My expressed. In the final with the Philippines, Thao My was the hero with consecutive scoring moves, while Thao Vy was the one who played as a foil for her sister.
Always accompanying his two children to competitions, Mr. Truong Quoc Man (Thao My - Thao Vy's father) said that Thao My - Thao Vy's passion for basketball came to them from a young age when he took them to play basketball. As they grew older, they became more passionate and developed their talents thanks to the school basketball movement in the US. Thanks to their basketball talent, the two sisters were awarded full scholarships to study medicine in the US. "When they were invited to return to play for the Vietnamese basketball team, Thao My - Thao Vy were very excited. They confided in me that they wanted to contribute a lot to Vietnamese basketball and hoped that the domestic basketball movement would develop more and more so that there would be more and more talents," said Mr. Man.

A boost for Vietnamese basketball
Witnessing the emotional coronation of the Vietnamese women's basketball team and the jubilant atmosphere from the stands, the General Director of the General Department of Sports and Physical Training and Head of the Vietnamese Sports Delegation, Dang Ha Viet, was proud that Vietnamese basketball won the extremely valuable gold medal. "In Southeast Asia, Philippine 5 x 5 basketball is a hundred years ahead of Vietnam, so we have to strive harder to achieve results. In the development strategy of Vietnamese basketball, the professional team focusing on the 3 x 3 event is also included in the continental, world, and Olympic competition system. In this event, we are only about 5 - 10 years behind other countries and can easily catch up to achieve results in Southeast Asia, Asia, the world, and the Olympics. The first gold medal of the Vietnamese women's basketball team at the SEA Games is a boost for Vietnamese basketball to develop further," said Mr. Dang Ha Viet.
Mr. Nguyen Bao Hoang also said that the Vietnamese women's basketball team winning the gold medal in the 3x3 event affirmed another step forward for Vietnamese basketball. It was the result of a process of building and developing basketball from the grassroots to the peak, in which the resources of the Vietnamese community everywhere were utilized in addition to building the basketball movement in the country.
