EURO 2024 has 24 participating teams, UEFA has divided them into 4 seed groups before the draw. In which, the Italian team won EURO 2020 (playing in 2021), but was only ranked in seed group number 4, causing many questions.
The Italian team only officially won a place at EURO 2024 on the last day of the qualifying round.
The EURO 2024 draw ceremony will take place at 0:00 on December 3 (Vietnam time).
The reason is that UEFA has based the seeding of the teams participating in EURO 2024 on the position of the qualifying results ranking. Only the host team Germany is given priority to be placed in the number 1 seed group and is fixed in Group A.
In the EURO 2024 qualifiers, the Italian team got 14 points after 8 matches, only winning the 2nd place in Group C after the England team to go straight to the finals. This achievement made the "Azzurri" ranked 18th in the ranking of teams competing in the qualifiers. The Portuguese team ranked first in the group with 24 absolute points after 8 wins. The French team (22 points), Spain (21 points), Belgium and England all had 20 points, being the top teams with the best performance in the qualifiers.
Therefore, based on the position on the qualifying round performance rankings, UEFA divides 4 seed groups (each group of 6 teams) in turn according to the following positions:
Pot 1: Germany (host), Portugal, France, Spain, Belgium and England.
Pot 2: Hungary, Türkiye, Romania, Denmark, Albania, Austria.
Pot 3: Netherlands, Scotland, Croatia, Slovenia, Slovakia and Czech Republic.
Pot 4: Italy, Serbia, Switzerland and the three play-off winners.
