- Promote gender equality, contribute to reducing gender imbalance
- Promoting gender equality and eliminating all forms of violence against women and children in ASEAN
Ms. Nguyen Thi Bich Ngoc, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Thach That district, said that every year, the district has directed and promptly implemented health and population activities in the area with many practical and appropriate forms and contents. In particular, it focuses on organizing communication activities to improve population quality and gender imbalance at birth through diverse forms such as thematic talks, direct propaganda at households; integrated propaganda on the issue of gender imbalance at birth in extracurricular activities at schools.

Along with that, strengthening inspection work and signing commitments with non-public medical facilities providing obstetrics and family planning services are also focused on and regularly implemented.
By implementing specific solutions, the sex ratio at birth of Thach That district has decreased from 123 boys/100 girls in 2015 to 110 boys/100 girls in 2022. This is truly a positive result in the district's population work, considering this a key task to be implemented in the coming time.
Speaking at the conference, Head of the Hanoi Department of Population and Family Planning Vu Duy Hung said that Hanoi always pays attention to and attaches importance to population and development work. Currently, Hanoi has reached the replacement fertility rate, the Population and Family Planning work has shifted to Population and Development, contributing to reducing the birth rate, the rate of giving birth to the third child or more, reducing the rate of unwanted pregnancies, unsafe abortions, and reducing the number of maternal and child deaths.
Hanoi's sex ratio at birth has gradually decreased from 117.6 boys/100 girls in 2008 to 112.9 boys/100 girls in 2019. In the first 9 months of the year, the sex ratio at birth was 112 boys/100 girls.
Although the sex ratio at birth of the whole city is on a downward trend, it is still at an alarming level. Without strong and timely interventions, the gender imbalance at birth will lead to unpredictable consequences for social order, security, and politics; leading to a shortage of women and a surplus of men of marriageable age, and leading to the breakdown of family structure, affecting the quality of the population in the future.
Commendation and reward for 100 good and studious girls in exemplary families of Thach That district who have well implemented the population policy
During the peak period of responding to the International Day of the Girl Child on October 11 this year, Hanoi launched a wide-ranging celebration throughout the city, especially in districts such as Hai Ba Trung, Bac Tu Liem, Nam Tu Liem, Thach That...
In addition, the units organized communication points in response to the International Day of the Girl Child on October 11 at schools, communicating gender equality, preventing domestic violence, enhancing the role and status of women and girls, replicating and distributing leaflets and brochures to promote gender equality and gender imbalance at birth.
Mr. Vu Duy Hung emphasized that, however, the population work in the capital is still facing many difficulties and challenges. The reason is due to the large population size, large residential area, and uneven awareness of the people. Therefore, the target is that the city needs to continue to promote synchronous solutions to overcome this situation, while at the same time, authorities at all levels continue to promote communication, education and have policies to support women and girls.
At the conference, 100 good and studious girls of Thach That district were commended, promptly encouraging good and studious girls in exemplary families who have well implemented the population policy in the area.
