AFP news agency reported that on August 19, a series of US security agencies including the Office of the Director of National Intelligence (ODNI), the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), and the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) issued a joint statement confirming that Mr. Trump's election campaign may have been hacked by Iran.

“We have seen increasing Iranian aggression during this election cycle, specifically involving activities targeting the American public and cyber activities targeting presidential campaigns, including recently documented efforts to harm the Trump campaign, which the intelligence community has attributed to Iran,” the statement said.

Additionally, the statement stressed, the intelligence community “believes that Iran used social engineering and other efforts to gain access to individuals with direct access to the campaigns of both major parties.”

According to the security agencies, these actions, including stealing and disclosing information, were aimed at influencing the US election process.

Responding to the above accusations, TASS news agency quoted the Permanent Mission of Iran to the United Nations in a statement emphasizing: "The above arguments are baseless and have no value. If the US government is honest about this argument, they should provide us with documents so that we can respond."

Iran's mission to the United Nations affirmed that Tehran "has no intention or plan to carry out cyber attacks" and made it clear that the Iranian government did not interfere in the US presidential election.

Earlier on August 12, Mr. Trump's election campaign hinted that Tehran was behind the cyberattack effort, in which documents they used to investigate Vice Presidential candidate JD Vance were sent to reporters.
