At around 4pm on June 27, Ngo Vi Oanh (10 years old, residing in An Phu village, An Thinh commune, Van Yen district, Yen Bai province) was riding her bicycle across the Ngoi Buc stream spillway when she was unfortunately swept away by the water. Both she and her bicycle were swept away by the raging water.
Seeing little Oanh struggling in the stream, Tran Manh Cuong and Vu Ngoc Kien (both living in Van Yen district) did not hesitate to jump into the rushing water to save her.
On the morning of June 28, sharing with VietNamNet, Mr. Tran Manh Cuong (Mau A town) said he was very happy to save the child.
“At that time, the child was swept away from the shore. Seeing that, I quickly swam out and saved the child. The flood water was flowing fast, up to my neck, I tried my best not to be swept away. Luckily, at that time, Kien came out to help bring Oanh and the bicycle to shore,” Cuong recounted.
According to Mr. Cuong, not only he and Mr. Kien but anyone in such a situation would try their best to save the child.
Mr. Trieu Quoc Toan, Chairman of An Thinh Commune People's Committee said: "Local people highly appreciate the actions of Kien and Cuong in saving the girl who was swept away by the water."
