A working delegation led by Dr. Nguyen Tri Thuc, Director of Cho Ray Hospital, has just arrived in Con Dao (Ba Ria-Vung Tau province) to provide professional support to the Con Dao Military-Civilian Medical Center.
Previously, the Department of Health of Ba Ria-Vung Tau and the People's Committee of Con Dao district sent an official dispatch requesting Cho Ray Hospital, the upper-level hospital, to "sponsor" the Con Dao Military-Civilian Medical Center.
Con Dao Military-Civilian Medical Center is receiving professional support from Cho Ray Hospital to meet the increasing medical examination and treatment needs of the military and people on the island.
Con Dao District is located in the Southeast sea of the country, 185 km from Vung Tau City, 230 km from Ho Chi Minh City, area 76.7 km2 , population 12,000 people, number of tourists fluctuates around 4,000 - 6,000 people/day.
Con Dao Military-Civilian Medical Center was established in 2005, a combination of the Medical Center and the Con Dao District Military Hospital, equivalent to a grade III hospital. In terms of professional activities, the center examines and treats over 25,000 outpatients/year, performs over 170 surgeries/year, and transfers over 400 cases/year... Although receiving attention from provincial/district leaders, the center still has some limitations and cannot meet the increasing demand for medical examination and treatment of the military and people in the area.
In addition, the center has not yet met the health care needs of local tourists because it is far from the mainland, lacks medical equipment and supplies, and especially lacks human resources. Human resources have to take on many tasks, it is difficult to receive training to update professional knowledge, professional experience is still limited, etc.
In order to improve the quality of medical services and meet the increasing demand for medical examination and treatment of local people as well as tourists, the District People's Committee and the Con Dao Military-Civilian Medical Center have requested Cho Ray Hospital to support training and technology transfer, especially techniques in initial emergency care: drowning emergency care, traumatic brain injury, abdominal trauma, emergency resuscitation and anti-poisoning, stroke, etc.
Cho Ray Hospital leaders conduct a field survey of Con Dao Military-Civilian Medical Center
After the field survey, the Cho Ray Hospital delegation met with the locality and agreed on some contents of support. Accordingly, the Department of Health of Ba Ria - Vung Tau province will rotate staff from Ba Ria Hospital and Vung Tau Hospital to support the Con Dao Military-Civilian Medical Center.
Cho Ray Hospital will support the training of human resources for the Con Dao Military-Civilian Medical Center; send experts in infection control, cardiology, and neurology to update professional knowledge for the center's medical staff; send equipment experts to survey and re-evaluate the center's damaged medical equipment, such as the 8-slice CT scanner and the 3-probe ultrasound machine, so that the equipment can be put back into operation soon.
Cho Ray Hospital also donated 1 ventilator and 1 battery-powered suction machine to Con Dao Military-Civilian Medical Center to help transport patients more safely.
