At 12:00 on January 20, the Criminal Police Department of Thua Thien Hue Provincial Police coordinated with A Luoi District Police to discover two suspects hiding in A Luoi District, so they deployed forces to arrest them.

According to initial statements, Lap and Duoc were in debt so they discussed robbing a bank to get money to pay off the debt.

At first, the two planned to rob a bank branch in Thua Thien Hue province. However, when they learned that the provincial police had just rehearsed a plan to capture a bank robber, they were afraid that if they committed the crime in the area they would be quickly arrested, so they gave up their plan.

Lap and Duoc then chose a bank branch in Duy Xuyen district (Quang Nam province) to rob money. On the way to commit the crime, the two stole a motorbike from a local, wore black clothes and held an object that looked like a gun, then drove to the bank branch.

Seeing two intruders threatening them with something resembling a gun, a female bank employee gave the two men a wad of money while another employee pressed the alarm.

Hearing the alarm, the two threw away the money and fled the scene and took a motorbike to Dai Loc district (Quang Nam province). The subject followed the Ho Chi Minh route to escape to a highland commune in A Luoi district and rented a motel to hide, then called Lap to run back to A Luoi district.
