Speaking at the opening ceremony, Deputy Director of the Vietnam Geological Survey Tran My Dung provided preliminary information about the report “summarizing resources and bauxite reserves within the scope of projects under the socio-economic development planning of Dak Nong”. This is a report conducted by the Vietnam Geological Survey under the direction of the Minister of Natural Resources and Environment (MONRE).

According to Mr. Dung, Dak Nong is a province with great potential for bauxite ore. The total identified reserves are about 4.2 billion tons of raw ore, accounting for 47% of the country's bauxite ore resources. Many areas have been explored and licensed for exploitation.
However, the characteristic of bauxite ore is that it is widely distributed, spread over many areas (accounting for about 35% of Dak Nong's natural area). Basic geological and mineral surveys and bauxite mineral exploration have been carried out over many periods. Demarcating areas transferred for planning work is difficult. This is one of the reasons for the overlap between mineral planning and other socio-economic planning.
Recently, the People's Committee of Dak Nong province has made many proposals related to bauxite overlap. After the direction of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, the Vietnam Geological Survey coordinated with the Department of Natural Resources and Environment of Dak Nong to collect data on projects and conduct field surveys.

In the immediate future, at the request of the Dak Nong Provincial People's Committee, the Vietnam Geological Survey has identified resources and reserves within the scope of 47 socio-economic development projects. The Department has made preliminary calculations of the costs invested in investigating, evaluating and exploring bauxite ore in overlapping projects.
The Vietnam Geological Survey has completed a digital map of bauxite resources and reserves overlapping with 47 projects. This is the basis for Dak Nong province to proactively review the level of overlap and resources and reserves in other socio-economic development projects of the province.
At the ceremony, the Vietnam Geological Survey handed over documents and files including paper copies and digital databases. Authorized by the Dak Nong Provincial People's Committee, Deputy Director of the Department of Natural Resources and Environment Vo Van Minh received the documents.

Deputy Director of the Department of Natural Resources and Environment Vo Van Minh thanked the attention of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, especially the Vietnam Geological Survey, in providing initial information on 47 overlapping projects. This is the basis for Dak Nong province to manage and use in the State management of geology, minerals and socio-economic development planning of the province.
But this is just the first step in removing difficulties and obstacles related to bauxite planning. Dak Nong is facing many difficulties in socio-economic development due to overlap with bauxite planning. Therefore, the province hopes that the Vietnam Geological Survey and the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment will continue to pay attention, accompany and support the province to remove difficulties and create favorable conditions for development.
