On March 18, Mr. Duong Minh Chau - Deputy Director of the Department of Finance of Dak Nong province - said that the locality is promoting investment attraction in the bauxite - alumina - aluminum industry, with many billion-dollar projects preparing to be implemented.
To ensure progress, the province will establish a Steering Committee for implementing bauxite projects, headed by the Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, to directly remove obstacles, support businesses and speed up legal procedures.
Accordingly, Dak Nong aims to complete the investment plan for at least 1-2 alumina factories by April 30, 2025.
The province is committed to choosing modern, environmentally friendly technology, ensuring effective exploitation of bauxite resources, aiming for sustainable development and making Dak Nong the leading bauxite - alumina - aluminum industrial center in the country.
Currently, Dak Nong has one operating alumina factory, which is Nhan Co alumina factory (Nhan Co commune, Dak R'lap district), with good economic efficiency.
Dak Nong 2 alumina plant (Dak Glong district), proposed by Viet Phuong Group Joint Stock Company with a total investment of more than VND 21,000 billion (~850 million USD), with a capacity of 1-2 million tons of alumina/year, is also being implemented.
In addition, there are three other alumina factory projects in Dak Nong 3, 4, 5 (Dak Song, Tuy Duc, Dak Glong districts), each project is expected to have an investment capital of about 1 billion USD.
In 2024, Dak Nong province has actively worked with the Government to remove barriers in bauxite planning, especially the overlap between bauxite planning and renewable energy projects such as wind power. This is one of the major obstacles that has prevented many bauxite mining projects from being implemented on schedule.
Prevent deforestation
On March 18, the leader of Dak Nong Provincial People's Committee said that he had issued a document requesting to tighten management responsibilities and strictly handle local leaders and related units if forest loss occurs.
According to a report by the Dak Nong Provincial Forest Protection Department, in just the first two months of 2025, there were 47 cases of deforestation in the province, damaging more than 8.4 hectares of forest.
Faced with the complicated developments of deforestation, the Dak Nong Provincial People's Committee has directed the establishment of inter-sectoral checkpoints in areas at high risk of deforestation, increased patrolling, control, and timely prevention of violations.
In addition, the province requires localities to take direct responsibility for forest protection. If serious deforestation occurs, leaders of districts, communes, and forest owners will be considered for responsibility, and may be disciplined or dismissed.
In addition, the Provincial People's Committee also requested to rectify forest management, urgently complete land allocation, forest allocation, and forest leasing to ensure that forest areas have clear management entities. At the same time, relevant units must strengthen forest fire prevention and fighting during the dry season, minimizing forest fires and forest land encroachment.
