Handing over 77 sheep to the people of Ham Can commune

BTO-On October 25, in Ham Can commune (Ham Thuan Nam), the National Agricultural Extension Center coordinated with the Agricultural Extension Center of Binh Thuan province to hand over 77 sheep to the people of Ham Can commune.

This is the content of the model of applying technical advances in sheep farming to adapt to drought and heat in the South Central region under the project "Raising community awareness and community-based disaster risk management, by 2030" (Project 553 of the Government).

The total cost of the model is over 300 million VND, of which the National Agricultural Extension Center supports 70%, the remaining counterpart capital comes from the households. At the handover ceremony, 77 sheep (7 male and 70 female for breeding) and vaccines, licking stones, mixed animal feed... were handed over to 7 households in Ham Can commune. These are households with suitable facilities for their scale; have volunteered to participate in the model, committed to sufficient counterpart funds and comply with the technical process of the model. At the same time, they are ready to share experiences with other households to replicate the model...

Support animal feed to households.

The sheep breed selected for delivery is a crossbred sheep, aged 8-12 months, weighing less than 28 kg. These are the breeds that were previously brought by the National Agricultural Extension Center to Ninh Thuan province, where there are many large-scale sheep farms in the country, to select, number and transport to hand over to households. This type of sheep is raised for meat for food, wool, milk, fat, sheepskin is commonly used in the garment, leather and pharmaceutical industries. The sheep supporting the people are in the reproductive stage, giving birth to more than 1.5 litters a year, each litter from 1-3 sheep.

It is known that Binh Thuan is one of the localities where the National Agricultural Extension Center has implemented the model of "Application of technical advances in sheep farming to adapt to drought and heat in the South Central region" to raise awareness and capacity to respond to natural disasters, contributing to building a safe community, capable of adapting to climate change; forming a culture of prevention, proactive and active participation in natural disaster prevention work of the majority of people. Thereby, creating livelihoods for people, promoting sustainable development of the local agricultural economy.
