Located in the “capital” of dragon fruit in Binh Thuan, the people of Ham Minh commune (Ham Thuan Nam) have been attached to this tree for a long time to escape poverty and get rich. With the solidarity, cooperation and joint efforts of the local government and people, by the end of 2024, Ham Minh had met 19/19 criteria of an advanced new rural commune. The entire Ham Minh commune currently has over 2,000 hectares of dragon fruit, which has become the main crop, an advantage of the commune and has been granted a growing area code. Notably, in the context of the dragon fruit market facing many fluctuations, many places have reduced the area, the dragon fruit growing area of the commune has remained stable. This is also the place where many households produce safely according to VietGAP standards with nearly 1,000 hectares. People mainly produce white-fleshed, red-fleshed, and purple-pink varieties and earn their main income from producing and trading this agricultural product.
The chain linkage, focusing on increasing the value of agricultural products in Ham Minh commune, is also affirmed through the effective operation of Ham Minh 30 Dragon Fruit Production Service Cooperative (Ham Minh 30 Dragon Fruit Cooperative). According to Ms. Le Phuong Chi - Director of this Cooperative, the business lines of the Cooperative are trading in fertilizers, dragon fruit, processing, preserving dragon fruit and planting services. The Cooperative has 17 members, the dragon fruit production area is 93.64 hectares according to VietGAP, charter capital of 306.5 million VND. During the process of maintaining operations up to now, the number of members has increased to 44. From the guaranteed quality of agricultural products, there have been many contracts from the stage of supplying materials, fertilizers, pesticides and contracts for consuming dragon fruit products. The average annual output is about 2,340 tons...
Or the model of safe dragon fruit production according to GlobalGAP standards and the application of water-saving irrigation technology of Trinh Anh Farm (Minh Tien village) with a cultivation area of 30 hectares of red-fleshed, white-fleshed and purple-pink dragon fruit. This farm supplies fruit materials to markets such as Europe, the US, Australia, New Zealand, Korea, Japan, China and domestically. The farm's dragon fruit products are well cared for, applying automated water-saving irrigation technology (Israeli technology), strictly following the technical process according to GlobalGap. Thanks to that, efficiency is improved, costs are saved, productivity is increased, so the average annual output reaches about 960 tons/year. The farm also creates jobs for 45 regular workers and some seasonal workers in the locality, helping local people have jobs and increase their income.
Mr. Nguyen Dinh Ha - Chairman of Ham Minh Commune People's Committee said that after reviewing a total of 19 criteria in the National Criteria Set for Advanced New Rural Communes in the period of 2021-2025, the Commune People's Committee organized a self-assessment of meeting the advanced new rural standards according to regulations, which is 19/19 criteria. Of which, criteria 4, 6, 9, 10, sub-criteria 13.3, 13.4, 13.6, 13.7, 13.8; criterion 14, sub-criteria 17.8, sub-criteria 18.4, 18.5 and sub-criteria 19.1 have been recognized in writing as meeting the advanced new rural standards in 2024.
