Through the festival, Ho Chi Minh City wants to preserve and promote national cultural identity, while promoting the destination's image to the international tourist community, continuing to maintain the position of Ho Chi Minh City tourism.

Along with the ao dai, many people also carry the "accessory" conical hat, a traditional symbol of Vietnamese women.

The ao dai are stylized with lotus flowers, which are also symbols of Vietnamese beauty. The organizers said that this year's ao dai festival has 30 famous ao dai designers from many localities across the country participating in designing many styles.

The Ho Chi Minh City Ao Dai Festival was first held in 2014 at Dam Sen Cultural Park with 4 activities. By 2017, the festival had grown in scale and quality when it was first held in the city center with a series of 11 activities. Up to now, the Ao Dai Festival has been held periodically in early March at Ho Chi Minh Monument Park and Nguyen Hue Walking Street, attracting thousands of participants.

Ho Chi Minh City's tourism industry hopes that the festival's activities will create a ripple effect through the act of wearing Ao Dai in public reception activities and at work during the festival.
