On January 26, information from Da Nang Hospital said that the hospital was receiving and treating three patients with serious injuries caused by homemade firecrackers.
Specifically, on January 18, the hospital received patient NHK (16 years old, residing in Dien Ban Town, Quang Nam) in a state of difficulty breathing, with complex injuries to the head, face, neck, chest, arms and invisible eyes.
Through examination and tests, X-ray and CT scan showed that the patient had bilateral cervical pneumothorax, superior mediastinal emphysema, right lung lobe collapse, bone loss in both hands, left maxillary sinus fracture, and right eyeball injury.
The patient was taken to the emergency operating room. Due to the foreign object in many locations and the patient's multiple severe injuries, many hospital departments worked together to treat the patient. Currently, the patient is still in a coma, on a ventilator, with a poor prognosis, and is being treated intensively in the Anesthesia and Resuscitation Department.

Then, on January 20, due to burning homemade firecrackers, patient NVD (25 years old, residing in Cam Le District, Da Nang City) had to be taken to the emergency room at Da Nang Hospital in a state of wrist injury and crushed fingers 1, 2, 3, 4 of the right hand, open fracture of the second finger of the right hand with jagged wounds, many foreign objects, and heavy bleeding...
Doctors from the Trauma Surgery Department performed debridement, surgery on the hand wound, sutured the severed muscle, and repaired the amputated tips of fingers 1, 2, 3, and 4 of the right hand. The fingers could not be preserved.
Recently, on January 24, due to burning homemade firecrackers, patient NTH (19 years old, residing in Nghia Hanh District, Quang Ngai) was also admitted to the emergency room at Da Nang Hospital in a state of multiple injuries to the arm, wrist, open wounds on the left thigh, right thigh, crushed right hand, facial burns, and loss of vision.
Doctors from the Trauma Surgery Department cleaned and operated on the wounds. Notably, due to the severity of the injuries, doctors were forced to amputate the patient's right hand.

The pressure from homemade fireworks can also cause damage to the lungs and abdomen, especially burns to the face and eyes, causing blindness. In addition, exploding fireworks can also create toxic gases that cause pneumonia, tracheal burns, etc. Patients will be shocked due to severe trauma.
"During Tet, some young people are often curious and make their own fireworks. We recommend that parents pay attention to their children, and schools should organize talks to warn students not to make fireworks on their own," said Dr. Hanh.
Dr. Hanh also warned that most children who have made their own fireworks once will continue to do so. For example, a recent case admitted to the hospital, last year this child made his own fireworks and this year he continued. The same was true of previous cases admitted to the hospital, most of them made their own fireworks two or more times.
"When homemade firecrackers explode, the injuries left behind by the children are very serious. Their hands certainly cannot hold a pen, and their eyes are blind, making it impossible for them to continue studying," added Dr. Hanh.
