DNVN – Doctors from the Department of Digestive Surgery at Da Nang Hospital have successfully removed a giant fatty tumor weighing more than 5 kg from a patient from Quang Ngai.
Previously, Mr. Doan Van T (58 years old, residing in Quang Ngai City, Quang Ngai Province) was admitted to Da Nang Hospital in a state of fatigue, prolonged abdominal pain, causing difficulty in daily eating. Through examination and performing paraclinical tests, doctors discovered a large tumor in the abdomen, causing compression of internal organs, seriously affecting his health.
Doctors from the Department of Gastroenterology at Da Nang Hospital examine patient Doan Van T after successful surgery to remove a lipoma weighing more than 5kg.
The surgery was performed by a team of doctors from many different specialties of Da Nang Hospital such as Anesthesia, Gastroenterology, Thoracic Surgery, and Urology in close cooperation to ensure maximum safety for the patient.
Because the surgical area was very large and the tumor was pressing on important organs, the doctors had to be extremely skillful and precise during the dissection process. After nearly 3 hours of surgery, the tumor was completely removed, leaving no complications.
The successful completion of this complex surgery has helped the patient recover his health and escape from the long-lasting painful symptoms. Currently, patient Doan Van T. has been discharged from the hospital and is recovering well at home.
Dr. Tran Van Nghia, Department of Gastroenterology, who directly performed the surgery, said: “The tumor was large and compressed many important organs, making dissection and removal particularly difficult. We had to operate very carefully to preserve the surrounding organs and ensure maximum safety for the patient.”
According to doctors, a lipoma is a benign tumor of fatty tissue that can appear in many locations in the body such as under the skin or in the abdomen. However, if not detected and treated promptly, the tumor can grow to a large size, causing dangerous complications.
Dr. Tran Van Nghia recommends that people who experience symptoms such as prolonged abdominal pain, indigestion, nausea or abdominal pain should immediately go to medical facilities for timely examination and treatment to avoid serious complications.
