15 million tons of nitrogen and 20 years of continuous creative work

Looking back at the important output milestones of Phu My Fertilizer Plant: reaching 5 million tons in 2011, 10 million tons in 2017 and now 15 million tons, it can be seen that every 6 years, the plant has achieved an additional output of 5 million tons. This shows the high stability in the plant's operations.

If calculated from the time of receiving the factory handover on September 21, 2004 and according to the design capacity of 740 thousand tons/year, the factory reached the output milestone of 15 million tons one year earlier, meaning that it has continuously operated not only at, but also exceeding the design capacity for twenty consecutive years.

To maintain safe, stable and continuous operation at such high capacity, the factory's experienced and capable operation and maintenance team over the years has made constant efforts and innovations. They have completely mastered the factory's technology and continuously come up with ideas and initiatives to rationalize production to help improve and upgrade operational efficiency.

Despite nearly two decades of operation, equivalent to four-fifths of the project's life cycle, the factory has continuously set unexpected achievements and records. In 2022, the factory's ammonia production line recorded a record of 678 consecutive days of operation. At the same time, the urea production line achieved a record output of over 900,000 tons/year, equivalent to 115% of the design capacity.

In August 2023, the copyright holder Haldo Topsoe (Denmark) recognized Phu My Fertilizer Plant as one of the best performing plants using their technology in the world through the “Operational Excellence” certificate. This is also the third time the plant has been awarded this meaningful certificate.

Plant maintenance is given special attention, helping the plant maintain safe, stable and continuous operation. Currently, the plant has two maintenance periods, which are annual periodic maintenance without stopping the machine and general maintenance (BDTT) every 2 years. Before each maintenance period, PVFCCo always has careful preparation with many plans and replacement materials.

During the maintenance process, with the dedication, responsibility, and creativity of the maintenance team, Phu My Fertilizer Plant completely controlled the progress and quality of the maintenance work - which is many times more complicated and difficult than the operation work.

As in the recent 2023 BDTT, the factory completed ahead of schedule and achieved all the set goals: highest safety, best quality, most savings, fastest progress.

The factory leader said that in recent years, the factory has changed its maintenance method from equipment condition-based maintenance to preventive maintenance. That is, based on analysis and assessment of the condition of each machine and equipment, maintenance, repair or replacement is carried out according to a schedule to prevent unforeseen incidents.

This maintenance method helps keep machinery in the best condition and operating most efficiently, thereby helping the factory to continue to be stable and possibly extending the project life cycle for decades more.

The 15 millionth ton of nitrogen was bagged on October 10, 2023.

Above all, the most important factor that helps the factory achieve the above results is the professionalism and creative working spirit of the factory's team of experts and engineers.

According to statistics, by the end of 2022, the factory had a total of 1,608 successful rationalization initiatives with a profit value of nearly 300 billion VND. Of these, about 20 initiatives were recognized by the Group, the Ministry of Industry and Trade, and the Enterprise Management Committee as major initiatives with high profit value.

In addition, there are currently thousands of viable ideas that have not yet been implemented into initiatives. In the future, this is an important source for the factory to continue developing into production rationalization initiatives and applying them into practice.

To achieve such stable operation in the past years and in the future, a prerequisite is that the factory has a stable supply of natural gas - the key input material. This is a great concern and effort of the Vietnam Oil and Gas Group (PVN), ensuring the gas supply for fertilizer factories, including Phu My Fertilizer Plant.

Today's 15 million ton output milestone is not just a simple milestone on the development path of PVFCCo and the factory, but a strong affirmation that with the capacity and efforts of the team from the leadership to each employee.

The factory will continue to maintain stable and effective operations, contributing decisively to the long-term existence and development of the Corporation. It is also the most practical action to show gratitude to previous generations, who laid the foundation for a majestic and modern factory on the wild land of the past, and a powerful PVFCCo today.
