The second job fair was organized by the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health at the District 8 Medical Center on August 2. 53 public units under the Department of Health, District Medical Centers and Counties in Thu Duc City participated with a recruitment demand of more than 350 positions.
Recruited, how to retain doctors?
Many large hospitals such as Children's Hospital 1, Tu Du Hospital, Hung Vuong Hospital, Eye Hospital... all participated in recruiting young doctors. On the same morning, Children's Hospital 1 recruited doctors for two positions. This was also the first hospital in the job fair to complete the recruitment positions.
Doctor Do Tran Cong Trong, 29 years old, from Quang Nam, who has just practiced for 18 months at Thu Duc Regional General Hospital, said he was recruited by the hospital to work in the emergency department.
In contrast to hospitals, medical centers in districts and Thu Duc city have many difficulties recruiting doctors.
Coming to the second job fair, Can Gio District Medical Center expected to recruit at least 8 basic positions and the maximum target was 40 employees, but by nearly 10:00 a.m., at the recruitment counter of Can Gio District Medical Center, there was still not a single doctor recruited.
Ms. Tran Minh Bao Thi - Director of Can Gio District Medical Center - said that she came to the job fair to inform that the center is currently in need of personnel in many positions.
"At the first job fair, the center set a target of recruiting 18 positions but could not recruit any. After that, although it recruited 6 doctors to work, after a while, 4 doctors left and now there are 2 doctors left," Ms. Thy confided.
Mr. Nguyen Van Chuc, director of Thu Duc District Medical Center, said that Thu Duc District Medical Center needs to recruit 20 positions. Mr. Chuc expressed that he was very happy because this year the center recruited 3 doctors to work at the medical stations, while last year the center only recruited 1 doctor.
All three of these doctors previously practiced at these medical stations, and after their practice period, they applied for the job.
143 doctors recruited
Present at the job fair, Associate Professor Tang Chi Thuong, Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health, said that this year's recruitment demand at hospitals and centers in the city is more than 350 doctors. However, the second course of the pilot program for practical training at hospitals attached to health stations this year only has nearly 120 doctors.
"The new thing about this job fair is that we have expanded it to allow doctors who already have a license to practice but have not had the opportunity to work to register to participate. Currently, there are more than 100 doctors registered to participate in the job fair."
Mr. Thuong recalled the day he met the city secretary to present and ask for his idea. That is, instead of allowing newly graduated doctors to find a place to practice for 18 months, the city should create a mechanism for them to practice at hospitals and medical stations. This will help young doctors gain more experience and understand more about public health. And this mechanism is indispensable in the job fair. Currently, only Ho Chi Minh City has this mechanism.
On the afternoon of August 2, according to information from the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health, at the second job fair, out of 143 recruited doctors, 51 doctors chose to work long-term at the grassroots health sector. Notably, before the official job fair, 3 young female doctors registered to work at the health station (under the Thu Duc City Medical Center).

Following the success of the first organization, August 2 is the occasion to summarize the pilot practice program at the General Hospital associated with medical practice course II and organize the 2024 job fair.
