According to the latest statistics of the General Department of Customs, in the first half of February (February 1-15), the export turnover of wood and products reached 354 million USD (of which wood products reached 217 million USD).
In 2023, wood and product exports will only reach nearly 13.5 billion USD, down 15.9% compared to 2022, according to statistics from the General Department of Customs. |
In total, from the beginning of the year to February 15, the export turnover of wood and products reached more than 1.82 billion USD (of which wood products reached more than 1.24 billion USD), an increase of 50.3% over the same period last year (equivalent to an additional turnover of more than 600 million USD).
This is one of the key export groups with impressive growth in our country in the first month of the year.
Notably, with the above results, wood and wood products are the first billion-dollar export group of the agricultural sector (including agricultural, forestry and fishery products).
The main export markets of this product group are the United States, China, Korea, Japan, etc.
Of which, exports to the United States reached 821 million USD (updated according to the market of the General Department of Customs as of January 2024), up 123.6% over the same period last year. This continues to be Vietnam's largest export market for wood and wood products.
Next is the Chinese market with 170 million USD, up 35.3%; Japan with 163 million USD, up 27.3%; Korea with 70 million USD, up 9.7%...
At the seminar introducing the 15th Vietnam International Furniture and Handicraft Export Fair - VIFA EXPO 2024 (held on February 20, 2024 in Ho Chi Minh City), Mr. Tran Ngoc Liem, Director of the Vietnam Federation of Commerce and Industry, Ho Chi Minh City Branch (VCCI Ho Chi Minh City) said that the recovery signal of wood exports started from the last months of 2023.
Specifically, in 2023, the export turnover of wood and wood products decreased compared to 2022, but there were still markets with good growth such as India increased by 288%, Peru increased by 111%, Türkiye increased by 90%, Norway increased by 52%...
In particular, from December 2023, the recovery will be more evident when the export turnover of wood and wood products and furniture recorded a growth rate of up to 10%, much higher than the growth rate of the total export turnover of the whole country...
However, Mr. Tran Ngoc Liem assessed that the market still has many potential difficulties when conflicts between countries are complicated and prolonged, affecting the business activities of enterprises. In that context, trade promotion plays a very necessary role in supporting enterprises.
