At the Press Conference, Mr. Nha said that according to the reports of telecommunications enterprises, by September 2023, Vietnam will have 15 million 2G subscribers. Telecommunications enterprises have also submitted plans that by September 2024, Vietnam will complete the discontinuation of 2G technology. The Department of Telecommunications (Ministry of Information and Communications) continues to monitor and accompany enterprises.

Currently, the Telecommunications Department has worked with businesses to build a database to review and request that all 2G Only subscribers after March 1, 2024 not be allowed to connect to the network. After 3 days of monitoring, about 5,400 2G subscribers were not allowed to connect to the network.

"After the network operator did not allow new connections with mobile phones that only support 2G technology and are not on the list of 2G phones certified by the Ministry of Information and Communications... I hope the number of 2G subscribers will continue to decrease rapidly," Mr. Nha shared.

The representative of the Telecommunications Department also said: "The spirit of the Ministry is that in the first 2 years, businesses will deploy 3,000 5G stations. This is a condition for businesses to have the opportunity to develop industrial parks, areas where 4G traffic is congested such as cities and densely populated areas. In addition, 5G has features such as high speed, low latency, network operators will find new business opportunities, meeting the development needs of society."

Also at the press conference, Mr. Nha said that currently 172 million subscribers in Vietnam have standardized information. However, spam and scam calls still arise.

"We are aiming to create primary subscribers. This primary subscription also requires a legal corridor. With the development of new subscribers, the Department has proposed to the Ministry of Information and Communications and the network operators have agreed to stop developing subscribers at some agents. Therefore, the number of subscribers accessing the network will decrease by about 30%".

Mr. Nha also revealed that the Telecommunications Department is proposing to develop a number of policies that allow these subscribers to register online, opening up opportunities for network operators to develop new subscribers but also ensuring accurate information and moving towards genuine subscribers.
