On the morning of May 12, speaking with a reporter from Dai Doan Ket Newspaper, Ms. Tran Thi Nga, Chairwoman of the People's Committee of Hang Buom Ward (Hoan Kiem District, Hanoi City) said that the ward had directed the ward police to investigate the information about a taxi carrying 2 "Western guests" 50m from Tran Nhat Duat to Cho Gao for 500,000 VND.

On May 12, many Facebook accounts shared information and photos about two foreign tourists taking a taxi for about 50 meters and the driver charged them 500,000 VND.

The post stated that two French tourists were taking a bus from Sa Pa (Lao Cai) to Hanoi when the bus company dropped them off at Tran Nhat Duat Street (Hoan Kiem, Hanoi).

When getting off the bus, the two tourists asked for a taxi to take them to Cho Gao Street, 50 meters from the pick-up point, and a male taxi driver charged them 500,000 VND. Notably, after seeing that the passengers had left their passports in the car, the male driver returned and demanded another 500,000 VND.

Mr. Dinh Duc Hanh, Head of Hang Buom Ward Police, said that after receiving instructions from the People's Committee of Hoan Kiem District as well as the leaders of Hang Buom Ward, the ward police are verifying information, searching for the taxi to clarify the incident and handle it according to regulations.
