"The US should stop smearing and baselessly accusing China and imposing sanctions indiscriminately," Wang Yi stressed.
"China has always emphasized promoting peace and negotiations, and has also made efforts to pursue a political solution," Foreign Minister Wang Yi said, warning the US not to take advantage of the Ukraine issue.
Speaking at a meeting on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly in New York (USA), Mr. Wang Yi assessed that under the strategic guidance of the two countries' heads of state, China-US relations have made progress and are worthy of respect. The stability of bilateral relations is in line with the interests of the people of both countries and the expectations of the international community. Whether this development will continue or not depends on the efforts of both sides.
According to the Chinese Foreign Minister, Washington has repeatedly stated that it has no intention of conflict with Beijing, so it is necessary to establish a reasonable understanding of China, build a correct path of coexistence, conduct dialogue with a respectful attitude, promote cooperation in the spirit of mutual benefit, and resolve disagreements cautiously.
Mr. Wang Yi emphasized that China firmly opposes the US's pressure on science, technology, economy, and trade, as well as the use of human rights issues to interfere in the country's internal affairs.
Regarding the Ukraine issue, Mr. Wang Yi affirmed China's stance of persevering in peaceful negotiations and promoting a political solution, while asking the US to stop shifting blame, abusing sanctions, creating opposition and encouraging group confrontation.
Earlier, Foreign Minister Wang Yi also met with Brazilian President Celso Amorim, foreign policy advisor, in New York. During the meeting, Wang Yi announced that China, Brazil and other countries in the Southern Hemisphere will establish a "Friends for Peace" platform to seek a peaceful solution to the Ukraine crisis.
Mr. Wang Yi said this is not a closed group but an open platform seeking comprehensive dialogue.
