Walt Disney also pushed back the planned release dates of Thunderbolts and Blade - two Marvel films that have been disrupted by the ongoing Hollywood writers' strike.
Avatar producer Jon Landau wrote on Twitter that filmmakers need more time to complete the third, fourth and fifth installments in the sci-fi series set on the planet Pandora.

Avatar 3 was originally scheduled to be released in December 2024, but is now scheduled for release in December 2025. Avatar 4 is scheduled for release in December 2029 and Avatar 5 in December 2031.
"Each Avatar film is exciting but epic, and it takes time to reach the level of quality we as filmmakers strive for and that audiences expect. The team is hard at work and can't wait to bring audiences back to Pandora in December 2025," Landau wrote.
Star Wars is scheduled for release in December 2026. It is one of two space-based films set to be released in 2026.

Blade, starring Mahershala Ali, has been delayed by five months - to February 2025. Thunderbolts, previously set for July 2024, has been pushed back to December 2024.
Another Marvel film, the Deadpool sequel starring Ryan Reynolds, will be released by Disney earlier than expected, hitting theaters in May 2024, instead of November 2024.
