Today (January 8), the British Embassy and the Hanoi Urban Railway Management Board (MRB) signed a memorandum of understanding on cooperation.
Speaking at the workshop, Mr. Nguyen Cao Minh, Head of the Hanoi Urban Railway Management Board (MRB), said that the UK will help Hanoi City research and develop the public transport system, develop the urban railway system according to the TOD model, and establish building information modeling (BIM) in urban railway projects.
The cooperation is based on the advanced experience of the UK, a country with many outstanding achievements in the fields of public transport and sustainable urban construction.
Applying BIM standards will help Hanoi significantly improve its capacity for planning, monitoring and managing projects, minimizing risks, saving costs, and improving construction quality.
At the same time, the TOD model will be developed more systematically, ensuring connectivity between public transport and urban areas, meeting people's needs most effectively.
This Memorandum of Understanding will serve as a foundation for expanding future cooperation, not only in the field of urban railways but also in many other areas related to urban planning, development and sustainable public transport.
Mr. Iain Frew - Ambassador of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland to Vietnam affirmed: "The UK has long been at the forefront of pioneering urban development solutions, including TOD-oriented Urban Development, helping cities optimize their public transport networks and reduce congestion. Therefore, supporting the development and implementation of TOD plays a key role in improving the city's public transport infrastructure and reducing Hanoi's carbon footprint. Cooperation with Hanoi and MRB is a testament to the two countries' shared vision for sustainable development".
