(CLO) Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova described the assassination of Lieutenant General Igor Kirillov, Chief of the General Staff of Russia's Radiation, Chemical and Biological Protection Forces, as being possible thanks to "Western assistance" to Ukraine.
"Another terrorist attack has occurred. General Igor Kirillov and his assistant were killed in a planned manner, killed in front of an apartment building at a time when people were going to work, children were going to school or kindergarten," she wrote on Telegram.
The attack on General Kirillov, head of Russia's nuclear defense agency, was "a continuation and development of the spiral of Western complicity" in Ukraine, the diplomat said.

Meanwhile, Russia's Deputy Permanent Representative to the United Nations Dmitry Polyansky said Russia will raise the issue of the terrorist attack at a meeting of the UN Security Council it has requested on December 20.
"We will definitely raise the issue of the terrorist attack on Igor Kirillov at the UN Security Council meeting on December 20, which will focus on the issue of Western arms supplies to Ukraine and their impact on the prospects for a peaceful settlement of the Ukrainian crisis," he wrote on his Telegram channel.
Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council Dmitry Medvedev said earlier that the Kiev government had admitted its role in planning the terrorist attack against Lieutenant General Kirillov. Ukraine has also confirmed this information.
On the morning of December 17, an explosive device planted on a scooter exploded near the entrance of an apartment building on Ryazansky Avenue in Moscow. Mr. Kirillov, 54, and his assistant were killed in the blast.
