Vietnam will support the Vatican resident representative to fulfill his mission.

Deputy Foreign Minister Le Thi Thu Hang affirmed that Vietnam will support the Vatican's permanent representative to fulfill his duties well, contributing to promoting bilateral relations.

At the reception for the Permanent Representative of the Vatican to Vietnam, Archbishop Marek Zalewski on February 5, Deputy Foreign Minister Le Thi Thu Hang congratulated him on his new assignment and expressed her joy at the positive developments in the Vietnam-Vatican relationship, according to a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The Deputy Minister affirmed that Vietnamese authorities will support Mr. Zalewski to fulfill his duties well, contributing to promoting relations between Vietnam and the Holy See, strengthening the connection between the Holy See and the Catholic Church in Vietnam, as well as encouraging the Vietnamese Catholic community to well implement the guidelines of "Respecting God, loving the country", "accompanying the nation", "good parishioners are good citizens", actively contributing to the development of the country.

Archbishop Zalewski expressed his joy at taking on the new assignment in the context of positive development of relations between the Holy See and Vietnam, and thanked the Vietnamese authorities for their support during his time as Non-Resident Special Envoy to Vietnam.

He hopes that Vietnam will continue to create favorable conditions for the activities of the Permanent Representative and the Office of the Permanent Representative of the Holy See in Vietnam to successfully fulfill the mission entrusted by Pope Francis.

Archbishop Zalewski affirmed that he will strive to contribute to continuing to strengthen high-level contacts and dialogue in the spirit of cooperation and mutual understanding, promoting relations between the Holy See and Vietnam as well as with the Catholic Church in Vietnam.

Pope Francis late last year appointed Archbishop Zalewski as the first Permanent Representative of the Holy See to Vietnam.

Archbishop Zalewski has worked at the Holy See's Secretariat for Relations with States since 1995 and has worked in many countries around the world, including being appointed Apostolic Nuncio to Zimbabwe in 2014, Apostolic Nuncio to Singapore and concurrently Non-Resident Special Envoy of the Holy See to Vietnam in 2018.
