On November 16, leaders of the Group of Seven (G7) industrialized nations reaffirmed their commitment to continue to exert strong pressure on Russia over its special operation in Ukraine, through sanctions, export controls and other measures.
The G7's joint statement released on the same day "in support of Kiev as the Russian-led conflict in Ukraine approaches its 1,000th day", stated: "Russia remains the only obstacle to a just and lasting peace".
"The G7 reaffirms its commitment to exert strong pressure on Russia through sanctions, export controls and other effective measures. We stand in solidarity with Ukraine," the statement stressed.
Italy currently holds the rotating G7 presidency in 2024.
Meanwhile, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said the country must do everything possible to ensure the conflict with Russia ends next year through diplomatic means.
In a radio interview on November 16, Mr. Zelensky admitted that the war situation in eastern Ukraine is currently very difficult and Russia is gaining many advantages.
He also said that Russian President Vladimir Putin has no intention of agreeing to a peace deal.
