On October 17, at the regular press conference of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, reporters asked about Vietnam's stance on the recent tense situation on the Korean peninsula.
Sharing about this, Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Pham Thu Hang said: "Vietnam is concerned about the recent situation on the Korean Peninsula. We hope that all parties will exercise restraint, avoid escalating tensions and persevere in dialogue, taking into account each other's interests as well as the common interests of the region and the world, contributing to maintaining peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula, in the region and in the world."
The situation on the Korean peninsula is experiencing further developments that increase tensions. On October 17, North Korea announced that it had revised its constitution, calling South Korea a "hostile state" for the first time.
As for South Korea, the country declared that it will continue to pursue the goal of unification of the two regions, but will respond with force to any aggressive actions (if any) by North Korea.
In a related development, North Korea's roads and railways leading to South Korea through the eastern and western regions of the North's southern border were "blown up." Once considered symbols of inter-Korean cooperation, the Gyeongui and Donghae roads and railways were used for economic cooperation projects and humanitarian programs between the two countries.
