After 4 days of competition, on the evening of September 15 local time (early morning of September 16 Vietnam time), the closing ceremony of the 47th WorldSkills Competition took place at Groupana Stadium (Lyon, France).
With a total score of 729, contestant Pham Thanh Dat won a bronze medal in CNC milling.
The gold medal in this competition, as expected by experts, went to the strongest candidate Wei Jie Long (China) with 735 points. Contestants Jong Su Nam (Korea) and André Luis Dono (Brazil) both won silver medals.
In addition, the Vietnamese delegation also won 3 certificates of excellent profession from Ho Chi Nguyen (IT network system administration), Nguyen Khoa Hai Minh (CAD mechanical engineering design) and Cu Duc Hieu (CNC lathe profession).
The national first prize of the Vietnamese delegation (Best of nation) belongs to Ho Chi Nguyen, IT network system administrator.
Although CNC milling did not achieve the silver medal in the world skills competition like two years ago, Thanh Dat's bronze medal is very encouraging.
In addition to the fact that 26 countries and territories are competing, not to mention top countries such as China, Korea, and Brazil sending candidates, according to experts, the CNC milling profession continues to compete with closed-ended questions with increasing difficulty and complexity compared to previous exams.
Not only in CNC milling, fierce competition also takes place in many other professions.
According to statistics from the Organizing Committee, up to 25/60 countries and territories did not win any medals despite competing in many professions such as Spain participating in 28 professions, South Africa (22 professions), Namibia (13), Norway (12), Estonia (11).
Assessing the results achieved by the Vietnamese delegation, Mr. Nguyen Chi Truong, Director of the Department of Vocational Skills, Deputy Head of the Vietnamese delegation at the WorldSkills Competition 2024, said: "With 1 bronze medal and 3 excellent vocational certificates, the Vietnamese delegation has completed the initial set goal.
The contestants, experts and the entire delegation have made every effort with the most fierce competitive spirit in the context of limited resources, difficulties in accessing and equipping new, advanced and modern technology for vocational education and vocational skills development.
"Although the number and color of medals this year are lower than in the previous competition (the 46th competition in 2022), this is the first year that Vietnam has organized a competition with occupations using 100% socialized capital and other legally mobilized sources, no occupation uses the state budget.
This result will be an important opportunity to recognize and evaluate the role of important stakeholders in vocational education and vocational skills development, including the state, businesses and training institutions," Mr. Nguyen Chi Truong affirmed.
Also at the closing ceremony, the competition flag was handed over to the representative of Shanghai (China) - the host city of the 48th WorldSkills Competition, scheduled to take place from September 22 to September 27, 2026.
