On July 20, the Ministry of Education and Training announced that all 6 Vietnamese students participating in the 2024 International Mathematical Olympiad won medals and certificates of merit, including 2 silver medals, 3 bronze medals and 1 certificate of merit. With this result, Vietnam ranked 33rd among participating countries and territories, down 27 places compared to last year.

Specifically, Tran Duy (12th grade student, Hanoi National University of Education High School for the Gifted) and Tran Minh Hoang (11th grade student, Ha Tinh High School for the Gifted) both won silver medals.

Three Bronze medals were awarded to Pham Tran Minh Duc (12th grade student, Tran Phu High School for the Gifted, Hai Phong); Nguyen Dang Dung (11th grade student, High School for the Gifted in Natural Sciences); and Nguyen Van Hoang (12th grade student, Bac Ninh High School for the Gifted).

Ta Duc Anh (grade 12 student, Hanoi National University of Education High School for the Gifted) received a certificate of merit from the organizing committee.

The 65th International Mathematical Olympiad was held in the UK with 609 contestants from 109 countries and territories. The contestants went through 2 official exam days with a duration of 4.5 hours/day.

According to the regulations, the Organizing Committee officially awards prizes to 50% of the participating contestants. In addition, the Organizing Committee awards certificates of merit to students who achieve the maximum score on a math problem.

This year's exam has a challenging structure for participating students, including Vietnamese students, with two combination problems, one at an average level and one at a difficult level.

The IMO 2024 Organising Committee will hold the closing ceremony and awards ceremony on 21 July, starting at 16:00 (UK time).
