On the evening of July 13, the Ministry of Education and Training announced the results of the Vietnamese national team competing in the International Biology Olympiad (IBO) 2024. Accordingly, 4/4 students won medals, including 3 gold medals and 1 silver medal.

With this achievement, Vietnam ranked 3rd out of 81 participating countries and territories.
Specifically, the three students who won the Gold medals include: Dang Tuan Anh, grade 12, Chu Van An High School, Hanoi; Nguyen Tien Loc, grade 12, High School for Gifted Students of Natural Sciences, Hanoi National University; Nguyen Si Hieu, grade 12, Tran Phu High School for Gifted Students, Hai Phong.
The Silver Medal belongs to Ho Duc Trung, grade 12, Quoc Hoc High School for the Gifted, Thua Thien - Hue province.
The 35th International Biology Olympiad (IBO) 2024 will be held in the Republic of Kazakhstan from July 7-13. This is the competition with the largest number of participating units ever, with 81 countries and territories and 320 contestants.
According to the Regulations of the International IBO Association, the competition will award no more than 10% of the contestants who win Gold medals, 20% of the contestants who win Silver medals and 30% of the contestants who win Bronze medals. The total number of medals awarded this year includes 28 Gold medals; 56 Silver medals and 84 Bronze medals.
Candidates will take 2 official exam days with a duration of 6 - 8 hours/day. Of which, 1 day is for theory exam with 2 papers and 1 day is for practice exam with 4 laboratories on: Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Anatomy, Animal Physiology and Informatics - Biology.
This year's exam requires candidates to have a good understanding of both theory and proficiency in practical skills, correctly and effectively applying knowledge and skills of biology from classical to modern in solving many diverse problems of global issues.
This year's achievements of Vietnamese students at the International Biology Olympiad are the best since 2019. In particular, for the first time, many Vietnamese students achieved high results in practical exams which require very high standards in this exam.
In recent years, Vietnamese students have achieved high results at international Olympic competitions with the quantity, quality of medals and average scores of students constantly improving, approaching the world's leading countries in the same field.
