Diabetes causes erectile dysfunction

According to the Central Endocrinology Hospital, there are many causes of erectile dysfunction in men, but recently, one of the most common causes of erectile dysfunction is diabetes.

Erectile dysfunction is a sexual dysfunction in men. The manifestation of this condition is the inability to get an erection, or the erection is not firm enough to perform sexual function.

Diabetes is now one of the common causes of erectile dysfunction in men.

Men with diabetes are four times more likely to have erectile dysfunction than men without diabetes. About 45-75% of men with diabetes have erectile dysfunction.

Normally, when men pass the age of 30, a slight decline in sexual function will appear. After the age of 40, this decline is more obvious and erectile dysfunction appears. People with type 2 diabetes experience this condition 10 - 15 years earlier than people without diabetes.

Causes of erectile dysfunction

People with diabetes have high blood sugar levels. This causes damage to blood vessels and nerves. The lack or damage of nerves is the cause of insufficient stimulation of the penis. In addition, the cardiovascular system of people with diabetes is not strong enough to pump blood into the cavernous chambers for erection. These are the main causes of erectile dysfunction.

In addition, unhealthy lifestyle is also the cause of erectile dysfunction. In particular, the use of alcoholic beverages and stimulants causes damage to the nervous system and blood vessels, which can quickly cause erectile dysfunction in men.

The male specialist of the Central Endocrinology Hospital also noted that being sedentary is also related to erectile dysfunction. Because when you are sedentary, the amount of testosterone hormone produced is also less. Being sedentary is also accompanied by abdominal fat accumulation, causing heaviness and sluggishness. This habit also creates a lot of saturated fat, making the blood vessels prone to atherosclerotic plaques, which is harmful to the cardiovascular system.

In addition, smoking and the chemicals in cigarette smoke can directly cause hardening, atherosclerosis and damage to the vascular system, thereby causing smokers to suffer from erectile dysfunction.

Other causes of erectile dysfunction include certain medications used to treat cardiovascular disease or certain antipsychotics and antidepressants, which can make erectile dysfunction worse. In some cases, psychological factors and stress can also prevent the necessary erection from being achieved.

To treat erectile dysfunction in men with diabetes, it is necessary to comply with treatment, including using the doctor's instructions on medications, taking the medication on time, and in the correct dose.

Check your blood sugar every day to maintain a stable blood sugar level. Avoid or reduce foods that can increase blood sugar and foods that cause side effects or reactions to medications you are taking. Limit the use of alcohol, stimulants and tobacco.

The Central Endocrinology Hospital has a hotline for consultation on diabetes screening registration and related health issues: 0967920880 (contact during working days of the week).
