Hundreds of pedagogical students receive living expenses of up to over 127 million VND/person
Living expenses for 35 months from the 2021-2022 school year to present
Speaking to Thanh Nien Newspaper reporters, a representative of Saigon University said that the school has just transferred living expenses to 498 students of the 2021 pedagogy course, trained under the task assignment method of Ho Chi Minh City. Accordingly, each student receives an amount of 127,050,000 VND (equivalent to 35 months of living expense support from the 2021-2022 school year to the present).
Previously, in December 2024, Saigon University also transferred living expenses to 75 students of the 2021 course and 232 students of the 2022 course (training according to social needs). In this transfer, the total amount each student received for the 2021 course was 108,900,000 VND (equivalent to 30 months), while students of the 2022 course received 72,600,000 VND (equivalent to 20 months).
Dr. Lam Thanh Minh, Head of the Department of Political Affairs and Student Affairs of Ho Chi Minh City University of Education, also said that this time, 170 pedagogical students of the 2021 course, according to the order method of Ho Chi Minh City, will be paid for living expenses. Each student will receive 127,050,000 VND, equivalent to 35 months (ie 3.5 years of study).
Dr. Minh said that on January 8, the school received the transferred funds. Immediately, the school carried out and completed the procedures to transfer money to students according to regulations. "It is expected that students will receive the money early next week. However, the school will transfer money multiple times and students will receive living expenses corresponding to each school year. In particular, for the 2024-2025 school year, students will receive living expenses for the first semester," Dr. Minh added.
Receive living allowance after 3.5 years of admission
Decree 116 of the Government stipulates the policy of supporting tuition and living expenses for pedagogical students, effective from the 2021 enrollment period. Accordingly, students majoring in pedagogy who commit to working in the education sector will enjoy tuition support policies and living expenses of 3.63 million VND/month from the State budget. The support period is calculated based on the actual number of months of study at school but not exceeding 10 months/school year.
However, after years of implementation, the situation of student teachers owing living expenses occurred simultaneously in many schools and localities.
In this period alone, more than 600 pedagogical students studying at two schools (Ho Chi Minh City University of Education and Ho Chi Minh City University of Education) have just received living expenses. These students were admitted to university in 2021 and are the first class to apply for the support policy according to Decree 116/2020 of the Government.
Also according to the provisions of Decree 116, pedagogical students who have enjoyed the policy will have to reimburse the cost if they do not work in the education sector after 2 years of graduation; do not work for a minimum period of time equal to twice the training period from the date of recruitment; students transfer to another training sector, voluntarily drop out of school, do not complete the training program or are disciplined and forced to drop out of school.
