Sunny, white dust, rainy, muddy everywhere
The project to upgrade and expand DT948 started in September 2022 and has now reached more than 48% progress, 31.8% behind schedule. The construction requires a lot of equipment and machinery, causing many obstacles for road users.
According to the reporter, at the sections under construction, there is a risk of traffic safety because the road surface is being filled with crushed stone, the large number of vehicles moving causes dust to fly everywhere, affecting people's lives.
Mr. Nguyen Van Hon (50 years old, local resident) said that this road is muddy when it rains, and dusty when it is sunny. Not only do road users have difficulties, but people living on both sides of the road also have the same fate.
"This route connects the Ba Chua Xu Pagoda tourist area on Sam Mountain with the Nui Cam cable car tourist area. Therefore, there are many vehicles traveling, especially cars carrying tourists. Motorcyclists are always worried," said Mr. Hon.
Locals said they were very careful when passing through this section of road, not daring to drive fast. However, the gravel spread on the road surface caused a lot of dust, affecting the environment and visibility.
Contractor both constructs and repairs
Mr. Dang Quoc Bang, technical officer, HAG Consulting - Investment and Construction Company (construction contractor) said that the company was assigned to construct 1.5km of DT948 route, through Tri Ton district.
At this section, the contractor is carrying out the work related to installing longitudinal ditches, constructing stone road foundation 04 and asphalt concrete pavement. Up to now, the progress has reached 80%. The contractor is laying crushed stone aggregate to construct the road surface.
"The weather has been erratic recently, making construction difficult and causing dust. It is expected that in about two weeks, the contractor will start paving the road surface. The project will be completed by December 31 according to regulations," said Mr. Bang.
Mr. Hua Van Tai, Director of the Project Management Board, Investment and Construction of Tinh Bien town (investor) said that the urgent upgrading and expansion project of DT948 belongs to the national defense and security line of the border and ethnic areas, phase 2, with a total investment of nearly 997 billion VND.
The entire route is more than 16km long, divided into two segments passing through Tinh Bien town and Tri Ton district. Of which, the section passing through Tinh Bien town is nearly 10.6km long, the rest belongs to Tri Ton district.
The project is a grade III delta road with a design speed of 80km/h. The project started in September 2022 and is expected to be completed by the end of this year. To date, the construction progress has reached more than 48%, 31.8% behind schedule.
"Regarding the dust caused by construction, the investor directed the contractor to immediately fix it to limit the impact on people traveling and living on both sides of the road.
At the same time, the investor also coordinated with relevant units to promptly remove difficulties, especially site clearance, so that the contractor's construction would be more favorable," said Mr. Tai.
Mr. Tai also shared his wish that people would soon receive compensation and hand over the site to the construction unit so that the project could be completed and put into use soon.
The DT948 route, over 16km long, is an important route connecting Tinh Bien town with Tri Ton district. At the same time, the route also connects with neighboring localities such as Chau Doc city, Long Xuyen city and Kien Giang province.
Phase 1 of the project will be completed and put into use in early 2022, from Bung Tien Bridge in Van Giao Commune to Nui Cam Cable Car Tourist Area in An Hao Commune, Tinh Bien Town (An Giang). This section has a road surface width of 11m, a 1.5m wide sidewalk, and a hot asphalt concrete structure.
