According to information from the General Statistics Office, in August 2023, Ha Tinh's consumer price index (CPI) increased by 0.63% over the previous month and increased by 1.23% over the same period last year.
The increase in gasoline prices through adjustments in August has impacted the increase in the consumer price index.
Among the 11 main groups of goods and services, 7 groups of price indexes increased compared to the previous month, of which the strongest increase was in the transportation group (up 3.12%) due to the increase in gasoline and oil prices during the month, leading to a sharp increase in average prices compared to the previous month. High fuel prices also directly affect the intermediate costs of other goods.
The food and catering services group increased by 0.92% compared to the previous month. The main reason was the increase in rice prices and high demand for shopping during the full moon festival in July. The remaining 5 groups (beverages and tobacco, household appliances and equipment, medicine and medical services, education, other goods and services) had a smaller increase, concentrated in some groups of goods serving the new school year.
Increased shopping demand on the occasion of the 15th day of the 7th lunar month is the factor that caused the CPI in August 2023 to increase by 0.63% compared to the previous month.
Compared to the previous month, the CPI of 3 groups of goods and services in August decreased: housing and construction materials decreased by 0.05%; clothing, hats, and footwear decreased by 0.17%; culture, entertainment, and tourism decreased by 0.31%. Only the price index of the post and telecommunications group was stable and did not fluctuate.
Thus, the increase in gasoline and rice prices, along with increased shopping demand during the full moon festival of July and the purchase of supplies for the new school year, are the main factors causing the CPI in August 2023 in Ha Tinh to increase by 0.63% compared to the previous month.
In general, in the first 8 months of 2023, the average CPI increased by 1.63% over the same period last year. According to the General Statistics Office, although the price index is still under control, it is showing a tendency to increase rapidly in the coming time.
CPI (short for Consumer Price Index) is a consumer price index that aims to show the average consumption price for a basket of goods or services that consumers buy. The CPI is calculated as a percentage to show the change in consumer prices over time. |
