According to doctors, this is the youngest and most special patient examined in the humanitarian surgery program conducted by E Hospital, Department of Dentistry, University of Medicine and Pharmacy (Hanoi National University) in collaboration with Operation Smile.
The patient is a boy named NTA (11 years old, in Quang Ninh province), who came to the clinic with a deformed jaw and face, loss of soft tissue of the upper and lower lips, lip and nose contracture, unable to close the mouth, and severely misaligned teeth.
According to information from the family, child A. suffered from a tissue defect in the mouth and face after an accident caused by a firecracker exploding in the face in 2022, resulting in a broken upper jaw, lower jaw, and loss of upper and lower lips... The child had maxillofacial surgery at a medical facility, but the condition has not improved much.
Knowing about the program, the child's thin, hard-working mother determined to take her child to Hanoi with the wish to find a smile for her child like other children of the same age.
According to doctors, this is a serious case. Experts have conducted a consultation and determined that A. has a defect and severe contraction in the mouth and face area. Doctors have prescribed surgery to release the contraction area and cover part of the defect with a microsurgical flap.
This is considered a highly accurate method, bringing many benefits in terms of results and recovery for many patients. This technique also helps to minimize damage to surrounding tissues, while improving the accuracy of the repair, so patients will have a faster recovery time and reduce post-operative complications.
This program started today, November 19, and 8 difficult cases were treated on the first day of the program. This is the last Smile surgery of 2024, but it includes difficult and complicated cases.
Participating in the treatment of particularly difficult cases will be experts such as Professor Nguyen Tai Son, medical advisor of Operation Smile Vietnam, vice president of the Vietnam Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery;
Dr. Nguyen Tan Van, deputy head of the Department of Dentistry and Maxillofacial Surgery at E Hospital, and head of the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery; and Dr. Nguyen Hong Nhung, Department of Dentistry and Maxillofacial Surgery at E Hospital, lecturer of the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at the University of Medicine and Pharmacy...
This is a difficult and meticulous technique, the shortest surgery is expected to take about 10 hours.
