Businesses “struggle” to survive
Data released by the General Statistics Office (Ministry of Planning and Investment) in May 2023 showed that 88,000 businesses withdrew from the market in the first 5 months of 2023. The economic situation in the second quarter of 2023 and the first 6 months of 2023 also continued to be affected by unfavorable factors of the world economy. GDP in the second quarter of 2023 increased by 4.14% over the same period last year, only higher than the growth rate of 0.34% in the second quarter of 2020 in the period 2011-2023. Reality requires businesses to increase their ability to adapt and recover to survive in the market.
Data from the General Statistics Office also shows that the results of import-export activities in the first quarter of 2023, the total import-export turnover of goods is estimated at 154.27 billion USD, down 13.3% over the same period last year; of which exports decreased by 11.9%; imports decreased by 14.7%. This has affected domestic production activities, especially industries with large production and export proportions such as textiles, footwear, electronic and computer components manufacturing, etc. The labor situation is also not very optimistic when the number of unemployed people of working age in the second quarter of 2023 is about 1.07 million people, an increase of 25.4 thousand people compared to the previous quarter and an increase of 1.9 thousand people compared to the same period last year.
Faced with such a volatile and unstable situation, in addition to the fact that many businesses have had to withdraw from the market, many businesses have not yet prepared enough scale and potential, competitiveness, resilience, and adaptation scenarios are still limited.
